what is the typical course load for Haas junior and senior? do they take 5 courses per semester since almost of the Haas course are 3 units (5 x3 units=15 units) ; otherwise how can they finish all Haas major requirement (38 upper business + 12 upper) while doubling major?

Question: Are Haas students idolized by the general student population?

For example, a haas student wanders outside his little area, is he then greeted by adoring Berkley regulars? If a Haas student was then idolized would it be easier to have a harem of less than average girls?

@Cyse - lmao

A few quick questions:

I know that the essays are extremely important factors when deciding who gets in. Is it true that the admissions officers like to see community service and leadership? If not, what do they like?

Do they see your grades for the fall semester during which you are applying? For example, if after spring 2012 I have a 3.3 but after fall 2012 I have a 3.5, which will they see and consider when reviewing my application?

How do they know people aren’t lying on their resumes? What prevents someone from saying they worked at Google or Morgan Stanley or something?

Thanks!!

Yeah 15 units is typical. Most people spread the love around a bit though a take something outside their major. Doubling isn’t difficult if you plan it right.

Your username. Ugh. OK, yes admissions officers want to see leadership. It doesn’t matter what kind. Yes, they see your grades for fall, since you don’t get decisions back until much later after Fall finals. As for lying? Work experience it’s pretty easy to check . You pay an agency $20 to run a background check and verify everything. Companies file records of your employment history, since they take deductions out for Social Security and *. And honestly, lying about this stuff is just such a *ty idea, I just can’t even begin. You don’t want to caught lying about something on your resume in two years in your banking interview, because it will destroy your professional reputation. Finance is a very, very small community.

Don’t lie. People get really upset about it.

Just to add, they won’t check everyone’s employment history but if there are any red flags then they will audit your information. If caught, you can be banned from all UCs.

Would you recommend Haas for a prospective law student?

Which has the potential to make more money in the first decade after graduation, ceterus paribis: a Berkeley graduate with a Business degree, or one with a CS degree?

^one with an EECS degree.

There’s objective data out there; no need to ask for someone’s opinion. That being said, both fields are very different and will appeal to different people.

I’m currently a freshman and I was wondering if I could still get into Haas with a B in Math 16A.

^ That’s a silly question. Of course it is still POSSIBLE, assuming you didn’t already take all the other pre-reqs and bomb them. Although I recommend that you do very well in your other classes from here on out to maximize your chances. Get involved as well and build as attractive of a profile as you can. I know people who have gotten into Haas with well below-average GPAs.

I need a brutal answer about my chances for getting into Haas. I just want to get some realistic advice from people who have gotten into haas (or UC Berkeley in general). I am thinking of applying to Haas NEXT year. I have applied to a few CSU’s already this year and I will probably get into them, but I am trying to decide whether I should wait until I have applied to Haas next year before going to a CSU. Just trying to see if I have a chance of getting into it or if I shouldn’t bother.

So here’s my story:
I’m going to a community college right now. I used to be a film studies major and didn’t do too well in my General Education classes. However, after changing my major to business I have been getting A’s in all of my prerequisite classes. But since I didn’t do too well before, the highest I can get my GPA up will be 3.4 or 3.5 - That is far too low for Haas, I know.
Regarding Extra-curricular activities, I am thinking of volunteering for a homeless shelter and/or animal shelter for a year.
Aside from that, I have founded 2 clubs in community college, have been president and vice president of those. I have been a foreign language tutor for the past 3 years. Also, I have a pretty successful online clothing store where I sell indie/boho/hipster style clothing that I design and manufacture myself (could this be looked at as a work experience (and/or start-up) of its own?).

I would appreciate some honest insights & thoughts!

Vague

Sounds great, your gpa is low but your story is the main thing that will get you in. Here is the thing, if you can apply next year do it, you’ll get into CSUs next year no problem. So why not give it a shot and if it doesn’t work out then you always have CSUs to rely on. Other UCs too. I transferred into Haas and I had zero work-related experience. No business experience what so ever. My GPA was higher but it was the story that really plays a big role especially for Cal.

Will I be significantly disadvantaged if I get a B+ or B in UGBA 10?

Does one have to send toefl scores after applying to Berkeley?

bump : )
10char

You can get a 4.0 and still not get into Haas. If UGBA 10 is your only B/B+, I’m sure you can make it up for a strong essay/extracurricular. In the end, just apply! You never know :P!
