Ask a Hill Student!

If any of you have questions about life at Hill, anything about the application process, or any other random questions I would be more than happy to answer them for you!

how would you describe the atmosphere/culture of Hill?

The atmosphere at Hill is incredibly welcoming and everyone is very tight-knit and close. When I say everyone, I truly do mean everyone. Within the first month of my freshman year, I felt as much a part of the Hill community as the sixth formers (seniors). Also, new, non-first year students are integrated into the school seamlessly. I was shocked when I discovered that some older kids were new because of the way they had been welcomed into friend groups. The culture at Hill is something that it very different from what most are used to, but traditional at the same time. Traditions are huge at Hill, from seated lunches and weekly dinners in the Dining Hall, the dress code, Lawrenceville Rivalry Weekend, and jumping in The Dell (the lake on campus) after graduation. What is different about it is the people who come from around the entire world. I have friends from China, Australia, South Korea, Vietnam, Mexico, Spain, and Turkey, just to name a few. Having these people around me enriches my whole experience and I wouldn’t change it one bit.The community atmosphere is what sets Hill apart from all other schools. Since we have small student body (505 students), the bonds held by the students and teachers with each other are amazing.

How is the food?

Hill seems like a nice school, but the dress-code was a turn-off to me and seemed to show that the school is very uptight and conservative. I am looking for a warm, welcoming, and not too uptight environment, I would be coming in as a sophomore and I live in the Mid-Atlantic area so the location is a plus. Please tell me more about the atmosphere and values at Hill and how the dress code affects you! thanks so much!

Pearls and Bows you are drinking the kool aid right out of that lake you jump into upon graduation. If you think for a minute that The Hill is the only school with students from around the world you are wrong. If you think Hill is the only school with traditions and rivalry you are wrong. Everybody integrates seamlessly sounds a little exaggerated and I am sure nobody drinks alcohol or smokes pot because the school has an Honor code. Come on , Hill has the same issues as every other boarding school filled with developing young adults. Share the down side of attending Hill, you are stuck in a run down town called Pottstown, just the name is a turn off to me. I have relatives that attend The Hill currently and it is a fine school but a big reason they have so many international students is because they are full pay and Hill has had financial problems. Are you the young lady from the admission video- Why I Love Hill? when people want to hear about a school they aren’t looking for Never Never Land- they want to hear the good the bad and the ugly. It sounds like you didn’t look far from Pottstown, many schools have these same characteristics. And did you mention the crime rate, it is double the national average.

FWIW, the mods have shut down several threads like this lately…the “Ask a [INSERT SCHOOL NAME HERE] student…” type threads. I don’t know why, honestly. But be advised.

SevenDad is correct. “Ask Me” threads are not allowed. The OP is a good example of the reason for this policy. People posted questions over a month ago that the OP never came back to answer. No one else felt free to answer the questions, either, because it wasn’t “their” thread.

The OP is welcome to answer questions posed in any thread, too. But he hasn’t been on CC since December 29, so I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
