Ask a Middlesex Student

definitely! would you be applying as a new sophomore? (assuming you spent freshman year unhappy at whichever school you chose)

if MX truly is your first choice consider letting them know that. If you are not as bound to FA packages as some others it can help you. Keep in mind it’s just like applying ED to college though, so consider it thoroughly.

I did let them know that. I told the admissions officer that I was also applying to Andover and that I would prefer a smaller community. However, I need a lot of financial aid. Would that decrease my chances a lot?

1) How is the social scene? Parties?
2) How many free periods do you get in a day?
3) About how long does homework take a 9th grader to finish?
4) Do you guys have identification cards?
5) What time is lights out, if there is one?
6) How hard is it to get permission to leave campus?

Shrlyhe: It is always harder for FA applicants at any school (besides andover)…Nobody can tell you the extent to which it will be harder…but hey, I got significant FA and I am not a URM (Under Represented Minority) or recruited athlete…so its always possible…

  1. the social scene is very community/family feeling…social “cliques” or “posses” are not really existent, or are not very well defined…you think of everyone as a friend (just to different extents)…and parties…we have dances generally once a month which are pretty good…this year the school initiated a “no grinding” policy which has caused some controversy
2)that depends on the day, your schedule, and how many classes you take. Usually you have 1-2…
  2. this also depends on the person’s work ethic and varies by day…generally you are supposed to have 45minutes of hw per class so 2.5-5hrs…
4)Yes, we have identification cards for library etc…we also have electronic dorm keys that allow you entrance into any dorm and keep a record of who was where at what time
5)There is lights out for freshmen at 1030…Sophomores and above dont have lights out
6)Not hard at all, depending on the situation, you might have to talk to your house head and/or just sign out in the book

hope that helped!
