Ask a Plebe...

Hey everyone!

Im currently a plebe at the Academy so if anyone has any questions you can send them my way. They can be about anything you want to know about and Ill do my best to answer them. I was on this site quite a bit during my application/waiting process and recieved a lot of good (and bad) gouge on the acadmy so Ill do my best to just tell you like it is.

If you dont want to post something, you can message me, and if youre a guy with a guy question (Im a girl) I can ask my guy friends whatever you need to know.

:-) Cheers!

-APan

I am attending the CVW on Feb. 8th. Do you know if the "drags" are evaluated by the plebe that has been assigned to them? Have you heard if the CVW has any bearing on the admission process?

Congratulations on your appointment and surviving plebe summer.

Do you know if candidates need to bring bedding along for CVW? It wasn't listed on the invitation but several posts have stated it might be necessary.

Thank you so much for being willing to take time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions.

mdlrnc- I dont know if the plebe fills out an evaluation- I havent heard a yes or no either way. My roomie has hosted some CC recruits and didnt have to fill out an eval. A lot of people that come on CVWs are not sure that they want to come here or not so Im imaging it isnt a graded thing, its more just informational for the drag, so i dont think itll have any bearing on addmissions. I will ask around tonight for you and get back with some better word.

Eaglemom- Candidates get a cot at least. We have an extra pillow and blanket in my room so we give them to our drags but I cant say that everyone has extras. If the plebe has a blanket they will give it to them. Id say the best thing to do is bring a linen blanket that wont take up to much room just in case. The rooms are heated so it will be warm enough. Id say chances are pretty good your plebe will have something for them tho.

How was plebe summer, and what did you guys (and gals) do?

I am looking to be class of 2012, and I too appreciate you taking time out of your exhausting schedule to help us out.

APan, are you posting from the Hall?

Glad you're here. I need to turn over the mantle of resident Alum/Mid (and occaisional troublemaker) to someone with more current knowledge than my own. I'll occaisionally stumble through to see if anyone has any questions only some old fart can answer. ;)

I stand relieved. :)

DING DING...... DING DING.......

ZAPHOD, DEPARTING.

DING......

Thanks for distinguished service, Z-man! :)

You've given us "chief's" duty. ;)

How goes the new assignment?

Don't be a stranger! We've been going thru withdrawal of your harangue and harassment. Sorta like going from plebe to youngster, maybe?

The new assignment goes well, considering I've only been here a week. :)

As for me, the e-mail address on my account still works, and a few of the regulars have my phone number. Other than that, I'll pop in and out every now and then just to see if I can get a word in edgewise past GA's imitations of CNN. ;)

What is CVW?

They're really going soft down there.

C'mon, GA! You need to post it right!

hey..... We don't speak like that in New Jersey!

no! didn't hear that!!! how did that happen? what happened to north carolina? do tell...... and why stop in NJ when you have good 'ole NY just next door!!!!

Did I just hear Bugs Bunny talking? Nawww...that was Z...
Considering my son wants to be career...What does the Navy do in Jersey? Lakehurst, perhaps? Or, has your time as an officer ended? (I believe I need to do a LOT more reading about the Navy... Feeling incredibly ill-schooled at the moment...)

jmwrites<--------------so far off blog topic it's astonishing....

I am no longer in the Navy, having turned in my shoulder boards going on 11 years ago. I am now a proud member of CIVLANTFLT. ;)

Zaph-

Yes, I am indeed posting from the hall. I have some current info as far as being a plebe goes, but thats it so far and I dont quite think Ive mastered the quick wittedness you provide lol. It'll be missed so be sure to stop in often.

dyenior- If I told you everything we did plebe summer it would ruin all the fun and spoil the surprise for you :) haha.

But here are a couple things I learned/ realized....

1.) It IS possible to have three people shower and read a newspaper in 10 minutes.
2.) 2 minutes is actually a decent amount of time
3.) Making a rack is an art...that you will become very good at
4.) You can memorize A LOT more than you think you can
5.) You realize just how much you appreciate your parents
6.) You can always do another pushup...
7.) Care Packages are sent from God

There are really too many to list, so those are a few for now.
We'll put it this way, it was the most challenging thing I have done to date (although first semester is a beast in itself) and I had a love/hate relationship with it. It was difficult and rewarding and I have met some amazing people and made some of the best friends ever. And when they say they say they want to challenge you mentally, morally, and physically, they mean it. You just have to take it a day at a time, and you will surprise yourself in more ways than one.

....Just remember that 2010 had the last real plebe summer ;)
