Hi, is there a certain major that would prepare me best for med school? Because right now I am signed up as a bio major and I realize that if I do not make med school, there is not much to do with a pure bio degree. That being said, could I major in something like biotech, env/agricultural science and still pursue pre med? This way I’ll keep my options open if I do not get into med school as having a biotech degree, for instance, is more useful than a bio degree in terms of landing a job.
@niktheslick Hello! I am pre vet so I hope that i can be some use to you in answering this question. What I’ve always heard is that you can major in whatever you want, you just have to complete the prerequisites. It is advised though to pick a major that you can see as a good plan B. The major that will best prepare you is the major that makes you happy while challenging and stimulating you academically. You can always pursue a minor and you also will pursue an area of emphasis. Google UC davis biology major course requirements. So yes a biology major will prepare you well. and don’t worry too much about what you major in because your character and experiences (internships) will be a bigger factor in landing jobs. and there is TONS you can do with a bio degree you can always pursue a masters too if med school does not work out. ***( if you google jobs with bio degree you can trust me that tons of stuff will come up. A bio degree is quite useful and a lot of people and companies seek people with the breadth of knowledge that a bio degree provides. yes it is quite broad but that can also be a good thing)
Hi so i just got accepted in UCD for managerial economics, and it says in the admission conditions that I must obtain a C or above for my final term for all courses, and that I should inform them if i didn’t finish any of what I reported in the application. So I’m wondering from what is this based on, like my school grades (its graded on 100 marks) or external exams? I take the international A-levels exams instead the of AP courses, and what happened is that I didn’t apply for one of my course in the upcoming june IAL exam, so does that mean I have to inform them or does it not matter?
Another question, is it possible to room with someone of the opposite sex? Because I have a friend from HS who is also going to Davis and we were wondering if it is possible to room together.
@niktheslick: sorry, but no, you cannot room with someone of the opposite sex. The floors and buildings themselves can be co-ed, but the rooms themselves are not.

On that same note, you also cannot request to be placed in the same dorm building as your friend.
@emopotato: It’s based on your overall grade in the courses you take. Your score on exams is irrelevant to that particular condition. For example, if you got less than a C at the end of the school term in any particular class, then you must report that.
Hi!! I’ve been accepted to Davis and Berkeley and am having trouble choosing between the 2. I was just wondering if you know anything about Davis’s poli sci department? Is it good or better than cal’s?
@christina26: I’m not a poli sci major, but one of my former housemates (and former roommate from when we lived in the dorms) was a poli sci major. From what I remember, she was close with many of her professors (a big plus for when you need to get those letters of recommendations if you plan on going to grad or professional school) and she liked her classes. I can’t comment on whether the poli sci major at UCD is better than Cal’s, but I do know my former housemate was happy with her major. Since Davis is just 20-30 minutes away from Sac (longer with traffic), there are lots of internships available for poli sci majors. Do note that while professors are supposed to be impartial and unbiased, there’s a possibility that professors in the poli sci department may either lean conservative or liberal and reflect that in their lectures.
REALLY EASY. My roommate switched from AG to L&S. Just takes a visit to the registrar to switch. Only issue would be if you had taken all Ag classes and decided to switch to English or Art or some specialized program with only a few semesters left at the school
As Davis is a huge public school, and most classes seem to be filled (I’ve heard of people having to sit on the floor because waitlisted students decided to crash the class), is it unlikely to have close relationships with your professors?
Actually, it is not as unlikely as you may think. One of the easiest ways to foster a close relationship with your professor is to always go to their office hours and continuously introduce yourself to remind them who you are (until you get to a point where they tell you you no longer need to introduce yourself to them). When I took CHE 118C, I always went to my professor’s office hours once a week (she had hers twice a week, but I could never make the other one because it was during lecture time for another class) so that she would remember who I was. For courses such as lab courses and the directed group study courses, since those are smaller, it’s even easier to build a close relationship with your professors. I took PMI 126L, where the class size is probably around 28 students (which was unusually large for the PMI 126L class), and both the professor/lab instructor and assistant professor knew me by name.
You just need to put yourself out there. If you’re the type of person who never goes to office hours, then you won’t build a close relationship with your professors. A lot of students at UCD build close relationships with their professors in order to get letters of recommendations for grad or professional school.
Hello, I will be dorming and I was wondering if the renters insurance is necessary?
No. I have never heard of anyone getting renter’s insurance for dorming. I don’t know how renter’s insurance would be necessary. Basically, keep all valuables hidden and always lock your doors when you go out, even if it’s for only a minute, and you won’t have to worry about anything getting stolen.
Thanks Sopranokitty!
@MysticSquirrel Hi! I’m currently on ucd waitlist. :(( do u have any tips for writing the ucd 200 word waitlist statement? And how does ucd waitlist work? And How do they determine who gets in?
Also on the UCD Waitlist and practically dying of nervousness after submitting my 200 word reply.
I was waitlisted after submitting a supplemental questionnaire back in January. My counselor told me it was probably because they were considering me more on from a holistic point of view (my GPA is low - somewhere around a 3.3 UW).
I’ve heard that UC waitlists acceptances vary year to year and that it’s pretty unpredictable, but anyone got ideas for this year? I really want to attend this school. Q~Q
As far as the waitlist, nobody here would have any idea of how many they’re letting off the waitlist or what criteria they’re using.
If you’re absolutely dead set on Davis and don’t get in from the waitlist, consider going to a community college for two years and then transferring to UCD. If you meet the requirements, you might even be able to use TAG to guarantee you get in at that point.
@PhantomVirgo Thanks for the reply.
Here’s to hoping I get in. >< If not I’m definitely considering TAG.
Hey guys, I’m a chemical engineer major here. I can try to answer any questions people have about the school.
sorry for late reply. I know nothing about the wait list process so i recommend calling the admissions office to ask
wish you all the best
