i really want to go to ucla for premed but dont know if i have what it takes to be accepted

^yea you’re probably going to get into UCLA. You’re competitive for the ivy’s but your SAT score is kinda low.

^ that’s a pretty good SAT score, but GPA matters more and you have an excellent GPA

Hey I’m an incoming psychobiology freshmen and was wondering what psych classes you recommend taking. Also how’s the curve in the science classes?

Is it possible to knock out the writing II requirement AND a GE requirement with one class? Many of the writing II courses on [Schedule of Classes: Writing I and Writing II Course List](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/writing.htm) are also GE courses, so if I take one that is both a GE and a writing II course, then a GE req and the writing II req is fulfilled with a single course…?

Also, I’m an English minor, and many of my required courses (like Eng 10ABC) have a requisite of English 4W. As long as I have my writing II requirement satisfied (with one of those GE/Writing II combo classes described above), can I proceed to the English 10 series, even without actually having taken English 4W?

yes .

babaganoosh213, You never know. Just be yourself in the application.

I have seen low scores coming into UCLA and I have seen 2300 SATs being turned down. If you are meant to come to UCLA it will happen, you have MANY people reviewing your app and each one reads the ENTIRE application NOT just essay, or JUST grades. So give them an ENTIRELY good picture of you and then see what happens.

Being well rounded is the KEY! GOOD LUCK!

@TCBH. Im heavily leanings towards political science. Im only considering Econ because its more well rounded then poli sci but Im pretty sure im headed to law school after cause I really like writing, debate, politics, history, etc. Anyways, my AP scores (only listed passed tests) are as follows

Note: Im only wondering about graduating in 3 years (i.e. is it possible?) I don’t really care either way but it would save money.

AP European History-5
AP US History-5
AP Biology-5
AP Comparative Government-5
AP Environmental Science-5
AP English Language-4
AP English Literature-4
AP Human Geography-4
AP US Government-3
Not an AP class but I took a 1 semester international business 001 course at a community college…don’t think that matters though.

I also took 4 years of spanish (no ap though) so Im pretty confident about passing out of the foreign lang. requirement.

Do any of these classes help?

Thanks!!

If you stick with Poli Sci, here[/url">http://www.polisci.ucla.edu/undergraduate-program/undergraduate-major"]here are the requirements. That’s 19 required classes. I don’t think AP credit will get you out of any of those, but you’ll be able to skip Writing I, and the requirements will get you close to 180 units. There are also 10 GE requirements, but it looks like 3 overlap with poli sci requirements. That makes 26 total classes. You’ll probably need a couple more to reach 180 units and 60 upper div units. But since you have 9 quarters, you’ll be able to have plenty of quarters with only three classes.

Of course that’s only if you go straight into Poli Sci. If you decide to explore and take electives it will be more of a crunch. But graduating in 3 years is definitely doable.

Golfer 3, thats very possible, its just going to depend on you making it to 180 units. There are 6 College/University requirements and you will be satisfying ELWR, AH & I and Writing 1. You will need to take the foreign language placement test as well. So then you will need to satisfy Writing 2, this can double as a GE sometimes. What were your SAT scores? You may also satisfy quantitative reasoning. SO 10 GEs. 2 of these can be poli sci classes counting towards your pre-reqs. 1 can be a stats class counting towards your PS pre-req. SO 2 more pre-reqs and then 10 UD PS classes. Remember though that you will need 60 Upper Div Units to graduate and a total of 180 units in total. So, I wish you the best of luck.

What’s the unit cap? Does it increase if we pick up a minor or major? When do we find out who are roommates are? Is alcohol allowed in the dorms?

@Ejdeha 216 units is the cap no matter how many minors or majors (AP scores are not included in this cap). Roommates will be sometime in August.

Thanks. Out of the 180 units we need to graduate, does it matter how many of them are upper division or lower division classes as long as we fulfill the major coursework?

You need 60 upper division courses out of the 180.

Thanks. I’ve got one more question. The calendar says move in weekend starts September 16th. Does that mean I get to move in that day or will I be assigned a specific move in time or day later?

You get a specific move-in time and date with your roommate assignment. It could be any of the move-in days. I think you can change your move-in time too if it conflicts (not sure if you can actually choose the time though).

How do we specify the move in time or day?

I have to be in las Vegas for business Thursday and Friday night, so I was hoping to move in Thursday morning.

Thanks for any help

You will get an email from Housing late August advising you of your move in time and day. It should be the weekend of September 18-19 and you will get instructions on how to request another time and day should you not be happy with what you are getting. I think the earliest you can move in is friday the 17th, but you can try asking for thursday.

Hi, guys. ^^ What I’m wondering is: do some classes you take for your major/minor fulfill GE requirements even if they are not specifically GE classes?

I asked this question not too long ago.
