UCLAcounselor, thanks.

From UCLA Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools,

“Concerning letters of recommendation, interviews and transcripts
UCLA does not require, solicit, or consider letters of recommendation, interviews and/or other documents for the undergraduate admissions process except for few majors that require a supplemental application.”

So, UCLAcounselor, do you work in the UARS office? Trying to get clarification on this.

i find that hard to believe. that means that some students will have an unfair advantage in terms of additional materials. in that case, why doesn’t every applicant just submit letters of recommendation?

Thanks! But, will the cluster fulfill writing II? I just don’t want to be overburdened first quarter, but I’m leaning towards the cluster.

I get it, so unless I’ve done something SIGNIFICANT enough that’s worthy of mentioning,
I don’t need a letter that excessively repeats my strengths over again. Thanks UCLAcounselor~!

^sure, but you could always include that significant event in your personal statement.

I was really excited to be admitted to UCLA! I just have a few questions:

Tuition - My dad has lived in California for over a year, but I am currently living in New Jersey. How many years will it be until I can get in state tuition?

Course Registration - If I have sophomore standing, will that increase my chances of getting into the classes I want?

If I’ve taken ten AP tests and got 5’s on all of them, do all of them count for units if they are not all related to my major?

Can I take college or community college courses to get more units?

Does having an earlier New Student Orientation date increase my chances of getting into classes?

Honors Program - The website says that if students have a minimum 4.1 weighted GPA and a minimum SAT score of 2080, they qualify for the College Honors Program. However, the actual application says you MUST send in proof saying that you graduated within the top 3% of your school. Which one is it?

If a kid has a lot of AP credits, will this allow him to graduate early?

In the alternative, if a kid has a lot of AP credits, will this reduce his overall tuition bill, by allowing the kid to take less courses than if he had no AP credits?.

Further, can a kid save money by taking summer classes at community college?

And if so, must it be a California community college?

I applied with biology as my major, but how do I change it once I arrive?

@jujummm you can talk to the advisor in orientation. If the major you want to switch to is also in L&S (which biology belongs to), it should not be a problem.

@floridadad55 if youe kid has a lot AP credits, it depends on what credits they are and his/her major. Taking summer courses at community colleges may need your kid’s department approval, taking GE in community colleges save your money. But, again, you kid needs to check with his advisor before doing that and check assist.org. I took one english course in summer at CC before attending UCLA, it waved Eng Comp3.

@coralsharx check and navigate arund this page [UCLA Registrar’s Office: Residence Classification for Tuition Purposes FAQ](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/faq/residencefaqintent.htm) to see if you can find answers about “How many years will it be until I can get in state tuition?”

If you are sophomore standing, it gives your 1st pass earlier than students who have freshmen standing, so that you can enroll 10 units ealier than them.

Does UCLA offer Financial Aid to international students?

Is the career center/ career days helpful for people? Do you think someone who wants to pursue journalism/writing should go to UCLA?

@sahil26

Check this link, [UCLA Financial Aid Office | CAL GRANTS | LOANS | WORK STUDY | SCHOLARSHIP | PELL GRANTS](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/)
Open 2012-2013 Financial Aid Handbook

International students are ineligible for federal financial aid.
However, undergraduate international students in their second
and subsequent years at UCLA can apply for limited university
grant funding by filing an International Student Financial Aid
Application with our office. The application will be available at
[UCLA Financial Aid Office | CAL GRANTS | LOANS | WORK STUDY | SCHOLARSHIP | PELL GRANTS](http://www.fao.ucla.edu), in January through March 2nd for the
upcoming academic year. In addition, if the student possesses
an F-1 Visa and has a co-signer who is a US Citizen or a
permanent resident, they may qualify for private student loan
assistance to cover their cost of attendance. Please contact the
Financial Aid Office for more information.

Are any other financing options available for international students?
Other as in scholarships, co-ops or Internships. One of my friend told me that UCLA does allows co-ops but I did not find any such thing on the UCLA website.

@sahil26, THere is UCLA student portal call MyUCLA, students can log on to find campus jobs. My international friends can get campus jobs (like in Library).

@boredh12 career center is help ful. UCLA has strong writing programs. Some students can get tutoring jobs in WSP (Writing Successful Program) or Covel Learning.

@xxCollegesxx, does UCLA allow students to go for co-ops??
