Ask a USC student anything!

Rushing as a sophomore will not be a problem at all. It’s a bit harder as a Junior, but even then, people do it. As for getting into a good house, I’d have to know you better to say. Fraternities don’t focus exclusively or even primarily on looks - they’re gonna care more about personality, sociability, etc. There are a lot of good fraternities at USC, and I’m sure you’ll find one that fits you.

Pledging can be a substantial time commitment, but after the pledge semester, being in a fraternity takes up as much or as little time as you want.

It’s definitely possible to get good grades. I’d point out that the all-fraternity average GPA is higher than the all-men’s average GPA. Most houses also offer a lot of academic support - test banks, tutors, etc. During pledge semester, you’ll just have to be good at managing time and setting priorities.

Obviously, some people will disagree with this, but I frankly don’t see any reason NOT to rush a fraternity. Especially as a transfer, since you won’t have a network of friends from the freshman dorms. For sure check out rush - if you don’t like it, then you don’t have to pledge, but at least you gave it a chance.
