ASK ALL OF YOUR SU QUESTIONS HERE

I know many of my fellow prospective SU class of 2020 mates have inquiries regarding SU (deadlines, campus life, etc). So, ask all of your questions here! I would like to have alumni, current students, and/or reps offer their help and words of wisdom.

My D was accepted ED and is so excited about next year! Can you tell us roughlywhen students move in and if there is an orientation? If so, what can she expect from the orientation? TIA!!

Usually the move in is around the end of August (26th or so). The academic calendar for the year is already up on the Syracuse University website so check that out. There is an orientation that goes on after move in for various majors which can include meeting some professors. There are also events scattered throughout the first week that also get you pumped up to attend the university

Have you met any transfer students? Do they fit in, are there a lot and where do they live? Thanks.

I was wondering if anybody knows why I was accepted for a major I didn’t list on my common app. I was accepted into the school of Visual and Performing arts for the communications degree. On my common app I put my first choice as Newhouse for advertising, second as Whitman for marketing, and third as Falk for sports management. I didn’t really expect to get into Newhouse but expected to get into Whitman or Falk. In the acceptance letter it said “You are admitted to Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Communication and Rhetorical Studies program for the fall semester 2016! While we are unable to admit you to your first choice in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, this alternative program will provide a fascinating and rigorous place to begin your studies.” Why wouldn’t the Admissions office look at my second and third choice after my first?

i don’t mean this in a rude sense, but how do you pay for SU? i had to deny my admission for undergrad but i want to go for grad school (maybe), but there is no way that’s happening if i don’t receive some sort of financial aid, whether merit/need based

@nj1818 transfer students tend to live in the sky halls on south campus. SU has several programs to try to get first years and transfers blended into campus. Joining clubs is your best bet.

@Rjcushing that’s weird contact admissions. I’m not sure why they would admit you to the art school without you indicating it.

@UAUKNOW I understand I’m probably transferring out of su because of the costs. Fasfa and css profile is what you need to get any aid
