How big is the drinking/party culture? I’m not that into that… It’s not like I’m morally against it, it’s just not really my thing. I still go sometimes, but it’s not something I’d like to do every weekend. Will there be other people like me, and will there be other stuff to do?
@ibcr98 I think most ppl will tell you that Yale as an inordinate number of non-partying options. It’s there if you want it – but there are TONS of activities outside of that. I and my circle of friends got that out of our system in our first two years. Our 3rd and 4th yrs were much more sedate – but we still had tons of fun and great experiences.
Is there any way I can get a Yale t-shirt? (For free maybe?)
How are Yale’s study abroad programs, especially compared with other ivies?
My D is a non-drinker and so are her suitemates (for the most part). Lots to do for non-drinkers though she did avoid certain situations where drinking was heavy. It was too funny that she called me the morning of Spring Fling to say that the drinking had already started and she was going to hole up in her room. From pictures I saw later, I see that she ventured out and had a great, sober time.
Are the science classes for pre-med big or small? Are they taught by professors or TAs? Is there much grade inflation in these classes or do they all have killer curves?
I know that. By pre-med I was referring to the group of classes you need to take to qualify for med school, typically in the sciences.
Obviously, popular intro courses tend to be large. My son’s experience has been that TAs grade problem sets and essays, but that classes are taught by the professor. He has had no difficulty making contact with professors.
Yale has a reputation for grade inflation. It has not been the impression that my son has as a CS major. YMMV.
