Hi - My son applied RD for Fall 2013. When can he expect to hear from Champlain? End of March as you mentioned above for last year?

My son applied with the Dean’s Select Application. When can he expect his decision? He included his portfolio as he hoping to major in Game Design. Thanks!

Hi sjlupin, yes, your son should expect to see his decision come in the mail around the third week of March. I would have him check in with his admission counselor to make sure everything is here, too. You can find which counselor would be working with him by visiting this page: [Meet Your Admission Counselor | Undergraduate Studies | Champlain College](Meet The Career Team | Career Collaborative | Champlain College)

Hi 4BoysMum, we are working to get through the last of our applications this month. He can expect to hear some time in mid-March. As I shared above, he is welcome to reach out to his counselor to make sure everything is in and his file is complete and ready to read!

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks Nicole! I just send a note to the person I think is his counselor. Champlain is his top choice, and we are anxious to hear!

Hi Nicole, I’m helping my son plan the remainder of his high school courses. He is planning to major in game programming (if at Champlain), computer science, or chemistry. Is it firm that 4 years of history are required for admission consideration? (Caltech = 1 year, MIT = 2 years…just checking). He’ll have 3 years of history through junior year but would like to devote senior year to additional math and science courses as well as keeping up with band and foreign language. Thanks.

Hi Snowdog,

You ask a great question about the senior year courses. The most important thing to us is really that the students have a solid four years of a college preparatory curriculum. Generally, we tell people that would be four years of English, three to four years of history, three years of math, three years of science (with two lab sciences in there), and two years of a foreign language. However, to be accepted into certain majors, we do look for some prerequisite courses and subject areas to be in the student’s curriculum. For Game Programming and Computer Science & Innovation, we require that the student has taken or is currently taking at least Pre-Calculus or higher. I would make sure above all that this course is in his curriculum. I would suggest the same for Physics, if he hasn’t already taken it. Once these and other required courses are in place, I’d figure out the rest of the coursework. Since he’s had three years of history already, he should be fine; however, if he finds he has a space for an elective or for a half-year course, it could be great to get a history or social science elective (such as Psychology, Sociology, other such studies) in there. However, as I said, the other courses are going to be the bigger priority, so it’s ok if he doesn’t have that fourth year of a history!

I hope this helps answer the question! Please let me know if you’d like any further clarification or have any additional questions that I can assist you with!

Very helpful, thanks!

This question really isn’t about admission, but is it true that they take attendance for every class at Champlain? It’s not that I wouldn’t show up to class, but I would still feel like I’m in high school if I have to raise my hand and say “here!” everyday.

Should we be expecting our decision letters on Friday? My son applied for Game Design and I’m hoping for a big envelope in the mail!? He was wondering if the portfolio piece makes decisions a little later or if they all go out on the same day. Thanks.

I exchanged emails with my sons admissions counselor and he said letters should go out on or around the 15th. He can’t wait to hear. He got acceptance from RPI this weekend and Champlain is the last one he is waiting to hear from.

Hi agreatperhaps, while they do pay attention to who is present in their class that day, most professors don’t go around the room, listing off names and having you yell “Here!” Honestly, most teachers will know you well enough to be able to glance around the room and figure out who is missing without having to take a role call. Some teachers that have a larger case load overall may instead send a sheet around to show you’re there. It depends on the class, but it’s definitely not like the high school experience. :)

Hi 4BoysMum, we’re doing the best we can to try to make sure all of our decisions are made by tomorrow so that the letters can go out before the end of the week. He should be keeping an eye out at the end of this week or beginning of next week! Hopefully the portfolio decision shouldn’t slow us down on making those tough decisions about those majors!

Thanks Nicole! Such an exciting time :)

Still no word from Champlain! Thought we would have heard by now :(

Nicole - do you have any idea when scholarship info will be going out for RD accepted students? Champlain is my sons first choice, but cost comparison is very important.

Nicole - I see some people got RD decisions on Friday.
Today’s mail arrived and still nothing from Champlain. When should we call and check if it has gone astray in the mail? Thanks.

Hi 4BoysMum, many letters went out at the beginning of this week, so it could still be on its way to you. Keep an eye on the mail, and feel free to reach out to your counselor to check back again if you don’t see anything by Friday. I hope you’ll see mail from us soon!

Hi sjlupin, the financial aid letter should go out within a week or so of an acceptance letter. There is a bit of a delay because of the process of our office informing the Financial Aid Office which students are accepted. If you don’t see a letter by the end of next week, feel free to reach out to your student’s admission counselor to let them know, and they’ll check in for you!

My son received his acceptance letter by email 2 days ago… it is looking like Champlain is his first choice. Where on the school website can I find information for students with learning disabilities?
