Thank you! Also, is this address we send letters of recommendation to?

The College of New Jersey
The Office of Undergraduate Admission
Paul Loser Hall 228
PO Box 7718
Ewing, NJ 08628

Should we mark anywhere on the outside of the envelope our name or anything and does it matter if we have the return address as ours or the teacher sending it or the school’s address? Thank you!

I just recently sent in my transfer application. How long does it take you to make a decision on transfer applicants? Do you sent out decisions in waves like you do with regular admissions?

Lindsayc: That’s the correct address. The letter of recommendation will have your name clearly on it and so when we receive it, we’ll be able to add it to your file. The return address should be to the school’s to the teachers attention.

Chewey: Transfer decisions are made in waves as well. For the spring semester, the earliest you will hear back on a decision is going to be December 1.

Is it okay if the teacher’s don’t use common app letter of recommendation form, but their own, as long as my name/school is clearly stated in it?

Yeah, that’s fine. That’s typically what we see. Teachers will put a note on the Common App form saying ‘See Attached’ or something of that sort and then type up a letter on their letter head.

Hi Cel589! Nope! There is a section that your counselor should be filling out on your Common Application, but they can send that in separately. We’ll hold all the pieces of your application and piece it together as it arrives.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. I was wondering about early action. I know there’s no system in place, but someonoe told me that if I apply by a certain date that it will be considered as an early action type application, meaning an admission decision will come in earlier. Is this true?

Hi Karldelo! You are correct. There is no early action in place. We don’t start reading applications until close to the deadline (January 15). When we do start reading, we don’t necessarily read in order received, so although there is a better chance that if you apply earlier you may hear a little sooner, it is not guaranteed.

Hey I’m early decisioning to TCNJ this fall for the Fall 2012 semester. My sat score isnt that high (2000) and im only in the top 20-25% of my class. Do i have any chances at making it into TCNJ as a bio major?

Hi! I saw that there were a lot of other majors available for the medical program so I was wondering if Biology is the only major available for the Optometry program. Also, for the applicants who are sixteen or younger, where is the exemption form that has to be filled out?

Hey! I am applying ED to TCNJ and i am done with everything on my common app besides the essay. I have a well written essay that i am proud of, however it is a little over 500 words. My essay is about 650 words and i am aware that the Common App cannot technically cut you off at 500 words. I know that a lot of colleges have mixed feelings about the word limit and each is has their own strictness when it comes to going over. However, i feel that if i keep cutting down my essay it won’t show my strong writing techniques and will make it sound very choppy. How do TCNJ admissions feel about going over the word limit? Should i just upload my essay as is or keep trying to cut it down until i get to 500? HELP!!!

Also one more quick question do i upload the activities resume on the common app or send it seperately?

Hi Mavs21: I’m glad to hear that you applying to TCNJ! That’s great! Since we take a holistic approach to reading applications, I can’t rate your chances. When reviewing an application we look for students who we think will thrive in the TCNJ community. We are looking for students who are involved in their current communities and have challenged themselves academically.

We recently changed over all of our websites and that’s why the link on the supplement isn’t taking you to our exemption form. We are hoping to get that corrected by the end of the week. Check back on our supplement in a couple of days and the link should be updated and take you directly to that form.

Hi Glzsprts! We at TCNJ like to see students stick to the word limit. We are not going to count the words of any essay you send us though. I would recommend cutting it down just a little more so that it is closer to the word limit but doesn’t compromise your writing. As for your activities resume, you can do either upload it to your Common App just as you would your essay or you can mail it in separately. If you mail it in, please make sure that your social security number is on there so we can pair it with your application.

I also have one more question about my chances of getting in. My SAT scores are on the lower side. My best is a 590 CR and 500 Math i know my math is very low, however i am not the best standerdized test taker. If i have a 95 or 3.9 GPA and am in the top 15% of my class, so i still have a good chance of getting in? I have also taken 4 AP classes throughout my junior and current senior year and honors classes since sophomore year. I am a co president of my NHS and participate in many extracurricular and volunteer activities. TCNJ is my top choice and i know it is a bit of a reach because my SAT scores do not reflect my intelligence very well. Will ED give me a better chance? Any info about my chances you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks !

The visit information on the TCNJ website is confusing. Is it possible to attend a back-to-back information session and tour? Or are we limited to doing one at 10:30am, and the other at 2pm?

Hi. Would my daughter’s chances of admission be better if she does not specify any particular major? I understand that some applications are denied or deferred if a particular major is filled. We have booked a visit in November for my daughter who is a Junior. Thanks!

Hi Glzsprts! Because we take a holistic approach to reviewing applications it is hard to determine someone’s chances on being accepted over CC. There are a lot of factors we look at besides the transcript and SAT/ACT scores such as activities resume, letters of recommendation and essay. If you are concerned about your SAT scores being low, I would reocmmend making sure all other aspects of your application are strong as well as demonstrating interest by coming to campus for a visit or open house.

Hi Saachi! I’m sorry for the confusion! There are two information sessions on each tour day. One is at 10:30 and the other is at 2. Immediately following the information session, an ambassador (or 2 or 3) will take the group on a tour. You only need to sign up for one time slot and both the tour and info session will be covered.

Hi Pellfour! If a student has a major in mind, I always recommend applying into that major. If we are denying an admissible student on account of their major, chances are it is not guaranteed that the student will be able to transfer into that major if they attend TCNJ as Open Options or different major. If a student is admissible to The College but the major they are applying into is full, we try to notify the student and sometimes give them the option of coming to TCNJ under a different major. I hope that helps!
