Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

How many applicants were there?

Hey senioritis12. There were about 600 ED applicants.

Dear Admission officer,

My D submitted her application on 11/28, and received an email saying ā€“
ā€œIn the coming 4-6 weeks, TCNJ will mail you ā€œSelf Serviceā€ information allowing you to access PAWS (TCNJā€™s on-line Self Service system), where you can view your Application Checklist to verify that we have received all of your required documentation.ā€
Still does not received any mail yet. Just want to make sure we can verify the completeness of the documentation, etc.

Hi Wtuan! Glad to hear your D applied! We are still processing applications from 11/28 so she will be getting that information soon. Since The College is closing for the holiday break this afternoon and wonā€™t open again until January 3rd, it might not get processed until just after the new year. Hold tight!

Hi!

I applied to TCNJ for the optometry program. All of the required documents have been received, but one of my recommendation writers still hasnā€™t submitted his letter. Will this hinder my chances of acceptance?

Thank you!

Hi Ialan137! Just have that recommender get their reference as soon as possible. It shouldnā€™t hurt your chances but, if it comes in too late, it may not help them.

Thatā€™s good to know. Iā€™ll let my teacher send it then.

AdmissStaffTCNJ: If Iā€™ve already sent my application in for RD, will you accept a January SAT retake? For merit scholarships?

And for merit scholarships, are students penalized if they have taken the SATs more than 3 times?

And Iā€™ve read that merit scholarships are solely based on class rank/SATs. What if a school will only give a percentile (like top 5%)?

Hi Kgarv3! Glad to hear you are applying! We will certainly accept your SAT retake. I would recommend that you just send a message to TCNJInfo@tcnj.edu saying that you are retaking your SATs and that youā€™d like your new scores to be considered. If your file has already been reviewed by the time your scores are sent in, we wonā€™t know to consider them for your decision, so just giving us a heads up before we get to your file may be to your benefit.

For merit scholarship, we take your best combination for math and critical reading scores on your SATs. We do not penalize students for taking the SATs multiple times. As for percentile rank, that works just fine. We certainly do not penalize a student for that either.

Hi. Our son was accepted Ed and is VERY excited! He was also offered the opportunity to be in the Honors Program. He has called the program a few times to find out more about it before committing, but has not been able to receive any information so far. He knows several students who are presently attending, and they have not been able to discuss any benefits to the program (although none of them are in it!). Could you please offer any insight? Also, we have been told that a freshman dorm will be closed for renovation. Where will freshman be housed? Thanks in advance for any information you have.

Congratulations to your son, Wzwoboda! Thatā€™s great! Iā€™m sorry that no one in the Honors Program office is returning your calls. Itā€™s a very small office over there and Iā€™m sure they are swamped! Here is a link to the Honors Programs Benefits page: [Benefits | Honors](<a href=ā€œTCNJ | The College of New Jerseyā€>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey) As you can see, there are some benefits to joining, like the Honors Classes, special trips as well as designation on his transcript that the student was involved in the Honors Program. As far as the dorm being closed for renovation, all freshman and sophomore students will still be guaranteed housing. In the Admissions Office, we havenā€™t heard official word yet as to what buildings freshmen will be housed in but it has been confirmed that they will still be housed on campus.

Hello.
My employer has written me a letter of recommendation and I have provided them with the materials necessary for mailing same. Should I ask them to include information more specific than my name in the letter so that the admissions office can more easily match it with my other application materials (which I have already submitted online)?

Hi Cricket123. Yes. It would be a good idea for them to include some other identifier like your birth date, home address, high school etc. This way, if there are a couple of people with your name, we know which application it goes with.

Thank you! I asked them to include my high school name and its location. If they already sent them and it is too late to change will that be sufficient? Or should I ask them to send it again?

Hey Cricket123! If they put your high school, that should be fine. :)

Really? Great! Thanks again. I was worried. :D

To admisstafftcnj- when do you hear back if you applied in October, but not ED. Is there something before RD.

hi i applied december 12th, and i have yet to receive my paws account. about when will i receive it?

Hi TCNJ admissions! Through Naviance, I applied to TCNJ Priority in October. When should I expect to hear back about my decision? Thanks so much.

Hey Mama3boys! All regular decision applicants, regardless of when they applied, will hear back from us with a decision between February and April 1. Itā€™s coming up quick!

Willthethrill32 - We are still processing applications from the beginning of December. As soon as your application is processed you will get that PAWS ID from us. I would say that you should have it in the next couple of weeks.

Jbauer0180 - Iā€™m not sure what the exact wording was on Naviance, but TCNJ only has early decision and regular decision. There is no priority decision. Since you didnā€™t apply ED, it sounds like you applied Regular Decision and will be notified between February and April 1.
