Ask an Engineering Senior anything

Transferred from CC. Friends in all types of majors both transfer and non transfer. Officer of an org. Social and academic life.

Ask away!

I’m a CS major, what specific classes would you say are the most time consuming/hardest? I want to try and balance my courseload as best as possible. And did it take you 2 or 3 years to grduate?

I’m an incoming transfer student for Fall12. I noticed a couple of the classes I want (specifically BILD1/Biology The Cell and VIS1/Intro to art-making: 2d practices) are already full+ full or almost full waitlists and I won’t be able to register for another month. The art class is just for fun (it’s only offered 1x/year though) but I need to take that bio class this fall.

So my question is, how hard is it to get into a class that is full? If you are on the waitlist? If you are not on the waitlist? Do you just show up anyways? At my community college even if you showed up for the class the first few days you were pretty much screwed unless you were one of the first five people on the waitlist because of the class size limits. They could only add a person if someone else dropped the class. Does UCSD as a big university make room for people or is there a good chance I won’t be able to get into these classes?

Thanks so much and sorry for being verbose.

Actually…wait…maybe I am looking at this way too early?

I’m using the class planner feature on tritonlink.

Hi. I appreciate you taking the time and offering to answers questions. I am consider applying to UCSD as a Computer Science major but I also intend to fulfil pre-dental requirements. I also want take Chinese and Japanese. Of course, I’m not going to take both at the same time. Is it possible for me to take CompSci and predental courses throughout four years and take Japanese up to second year level my first 2 years followed by Chinese up to Second year level my last two years at UCSD?

As I’m not much of a social person, I wont be going out often. Just occasional outings and recreation such as biking. Time won’t be a concern. As I’m taking AP Biology my coming senior year after this summer, I’ll have enough knowledge to not have too much trouble when taking bio again in college. I’m aware most med schools won’t accept AP courses.
