Ask any questions you need!

I was accepted to Berkeley and will be majoring in Pre-Haas (Business) if you have any questions about the admissions process or the application go ahead.

Hi! I’m a junior from Illinois hoping to go Pre-Haas. What were your stats and ECs like? I think I am in the range, but I know it can be really competitive

Well I did not have impressive SAT’s I had 2060 SAT 780 math 2 and 700 US history. I also had 31 ACT and my GPA was perfect 4.0. I took 14 AP class and passed all of them. My extras included President of Academic Club and founder of couple of other clubs. I involved in church and moved up in ranks and became a deacon. I also speak 4 languages and lived most of my life outside of US. I can tell you that because of my non-impressive SAT what saved me was the essay.

The most important thing about the application is to make sure that it brings something unique. For instance I came to the US and had to learn the language while attending high school and my essay centered around perseverance; how I did not want to give up just because it was hard. You also have to be truthful to yourself. My advice for you would be to start thinking about the essay. If you go on to Berkeley’s website you will see the prompts. If you work on them earlier it will be easier. Good Luck!

For prospective Haas students, would you suggest taking Math 1A and 1B, or Math 16A and 16B?

BrrelBlaster- In general if you have completed a high school course of AP BC Calculus you will not need to take Math 1A 1B or 16A and 16B. Here are the requirements for pre-Haas http://ls-orientation.berkeley.edu/resources/pre-hass_econ.pdf and here is Berkeley’s AP policy

https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/credit-policy-detail diCode=4833&orgId=988&name=University%20of%20California%3A%20Berkeley&address=Berkeley%2C%20CA

If you are unable to take BC or AB calculus in high school then I would suggest you take Math 1A and 1B first since these courses are more introductory while 16A and 16B are more advanced. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your response! I am in IB, and will likely score 5+ in HL Math which gives me credit. Soo I suppose it’s time to jump head first in Math 53 ._.

Thank you, this is great information!
