you have great credentials! i think you will definitely get into tcnj. i am a current freshman bio major here so i’m going to just tell you a little bit about biology and bme… biology is more competitive to get into as a lot of people who apply to the school of science want to get into that program. since it is so competitive, it is really hard for other majors to transfer into the program if they wish to change majors in the future. it is possible but hard. as for biomedical engineering… that is probably the hardest major at our school and it does require taking 5 classes per semester instead of 4. transferring into this program would be also be extremely hard because the rigorous program requires a specific course sequence. they even get first choice during class scheduling to ensure they get into the proper class.

thanks to everyone for your positive feedback!

i realize the workload will be pretty bad, but hopefully it’ll pay off it 5 years. (pun intended) haha

my outlook right now is: if i get into the SMED program with UMDNJ ill do bio and if not, id like to enroll all bio med eng. major, and possble take mcats afterward and see where that takes me…

just wondering…do you guys know anyone in the 7 year med program? do i stand a chance with 1380? i’ve heard that they dont even forward your app to the med school if you dont meet the 1400 mark…which sucks for me considering i prob just missed it by 1 question…

i could be wrong but when i was going through the app process i thought i saw that a 1400 was required to apply for smed but don’t quote me on that! have you tried checking the website?

and if you don’t get in don’t worry there are still sooo many more options whether you decide to go with bio or biomed engineering

Yeah, you need at least a 1400 M/CR in one sitting to get the 1st interview (2nd interview at NJMS with a doctor and is more intense) although most people I know in the program have at least a 1500. Maybe you can retake the SAT in Dec. Apply just as long as you get a 1400+ as the admission people look at more than just SAT scores. Just don’t forget to submit your app by Jan 1 if you want to do bio.

Good luck with getting into the program. It’s totally worth it :)

well, unfortunately, i’m done taking the sats. took them 3x. went up only 40 pts second time. then my score remained EXACTLY the same for the third test. so, i suppose it was fate that kept me from getting a 1400 (or lack of intelligence)

hopefully, i’ll get accepted into reg. undergrad and will be seeing you all nest august :)

random question: i realize i should not base my choice of a school on this, but what is the party life like at tcnj? i read on a thread that partys aren’t that hard to come across, but considering nyc is over 2hrs away, do people ever have fun off campus at clubs for example?
and what is the alcohol policy like? i know i did an overnight at another school, and the students stressed that they have a zero tolerance policy. i.e if they catch you at a party, the school will immediatly notify parents…

also, is tcnj really a “suitcase” school?

and finally, please dont think im shallow or anything but, at a campus visit, i noticed that most of the guys there were surprisingly good looking! did i just happen to show up on a lucky day? haha

just wondering… does tcnj waitlist a lot? im really paranoid about this cuz i can barely wait for december 15, i think i would die a bit waiting for april 1 xx
stats:
SATs: CR/M- 1330 (CR- 680 M-640 W-710)
top 25%
3 APs (otherwise all honors)
couple of ECs
english major
good recs (assuming)
asian
3.8-ish GPA
about 15 hrs of work/week
do i have a chance to get in? D:
WAITLIST OR DEFFERMENT?? TT

otaku816 i can’t speak for the stats of english majors getting accepted but i’d say you’ve got as good a chance as anyone good luck and don’t worry!

I am also applying to TCNJ because my mom was an alumni there.
But when I see your GPA and grades, I’m getting worried. I really want to go to TCNJ because I love the study environment there, but I have an 1890 SAT score and my GPA unweighted is 3.8. I’m not sure what my weighted GPA is, but I think it’s only a few points higher. I have done many extracurricular activities with leadership as well.
Also, is the admission criteria for each major different? I may want to apply for biomedical engineering, but is it going to be more competitive than applying for sociology/anthropology?
Are there any statistics of accepted GPA/SAT ranges of students in different fields?

Thanks for your help, I’ll be waiting for the replies.

Oh yeah! Excluding the writing section of the SAT, I have a 1240. (570 CR and 670 Math). I know this is low, but this was my second time taking the SAT and I don’t think I’m going to take it again, because I only improved by 40 points.

Intellect98- no need to worry I think you should be fine. As far as applying for certain majors, yes, some are definitely more competitive than others (for example biology!). You may have a better shot at getting in to one major over one other, not necessarily because of grades but more so because of the amount of applicants. However, when you apply you put down your preferred major and one alternate. So go for the biomed engineering if that’s what you really want and put sociology/antrhology (or whatever you choose) as your alternate. That way if you’re not accepted into the engineering program you could be accepted into your second choice of major. As far as the stats, you may need to do some investigating on the tcnj site.

FutureInPhysics- I also think you are a very good candidate (and the fact that you’re a physics major may give you a slight edge). Also, the fact that someone from your high school was accepted to Cornell but not TCNJ is a good example of TCNJ’s selectivity. They do not just accept anyone who applies.

Hi =)
I submitted my ED app about a month ago…
3.74 gpa, 1330 on my SATs, 2 APs 1 honors (only senior year) and tons of ECs
I applied as a polysci major
I know what the website and the admissions people ive met with have told me but does anyone have any opinions?

Thanks a lot HazelEyes!
I think that’s what I’m going to end up doing. Because in the end we don’t really know what our final major will be by sophomore year.
Are the decisions on a rolling basis? Or are we all going to find out like after the deadline for RD?

I believe MOST of the decisions are on a rolling basis… except for bio and maybe a few others like the smed apps

as far as majors, while i think it is typical to declare your major at sophomore year (like if you’re open options or undeclared) just be aware that you WILL start taking classes specifically for the major you applied for and were accepted as fall of freshman year… this is especially true for engineers, science, nursing majors etc. Also, certain majors require that you take classes in a specific sequence (engineering and music for example)…therefore it may be easier or harder to switch from one major to another depending on the subjects… for example it’ll probably be easier to switch from engineering to another major whereas it would be harder to switch into engineering

I’m not trying to discourage you or anything but just so you’re aware and don’t get any surprises later on…like I told someone on another thread the sooner you know you want to change majors (if you ever do) and the sooner you start the process the easier things will be :)

I’m am extremely paranoid about getting in to TCNJ.
I applied ED and I have a 2050 SAT, top quarter
however i have two leadrship postions, have done dance for 9 years, and have done international social work. Great rec.and killer essay. Opinions on admission?

hey thanks!
most people say I shouldn’t worry, but idk. I have a couple C’s on my transcript. They are in honors math and science, and i’m applying to sociology/history. Do you think they will look down upon that?

Hi I went on the tcnj website and saw that its possible to check ones application status, but in order to to do this you need a username and password. Since I didnt know any of these i clicked on look up my paws username but then they ask for a paws id, which I don’t have either. What do I do?
