ask me (a student) questions!

Re conservatives/liberals: I know quite a few conservatives. A lot of people tend to have a libertarian tilt on things, though. People don't tend to get hostile about their views and republicans and democrats happily intermingle. Also, while there are a lot more people in College Democrats (maybe 1 or 2 thousand people) and about 300 in College Republicans, everyone in CRs is really hardcore, much more active than I'd say the majority of CDs are. For the election CRs had campaign trips almost every weekend, often multiple trips a weekend - Colorado, Philly, VA, and we sent a group down to help re-elect Saxby Chambliss in GA this past weekend. So no, a conservative would not feel out of place. : )

hey Trixipixi007,
thanks a lot for the thread.
I
m newly admitted transfer student, I
m wondering do I have to pay fixed tuition rate?
I`m really willing to take 12 credits for the first semester.

anyone have any idea whether SMPA is highly regarded among the media/commuications world or not?

in other words, how competitive is it compared to journalism programs in other schools such as Newhouse (Syracuse), College of Communications (BU), Medill (northwestern) etc?

im a prospective applicant who wants to major in journalism, so I was just wondering if i have to give up renowned journalism programs at other schools in order to study at the nation's capital.

I'm hoping the DC experience (including resources, internship opportunities, etc) will put me slightly ahead of other journalism graduates from other schools even if SMPA is not highly regarded. so i was just wondering what everyone else's opinion is on this?

GW is my first choice and i am planning to ED2. the only thing holding me back is the fact that SMPA might not be all that recognized.

thanks in advance!

Schmohawk,

For BA/MD program,

1) Out of 20 students, what is the percentage got in to medical program after 3 years undergrad?
2) What are the requirements to be promoted to medical prgram after 3 years undergrad?
3) Why you chose 7year GW/GW program instead of 8 year St. Bonavewnture/GW program?
4) Any tips to prepare for GW interview?

Thanks,

Hows diverse is GWU. Like % of minority. Afircan Americans?
also
Where do you guys hang out?

I play alot of basketball. Is the gym open 24/7 and mostly empty(basketball courts).
I am pretty sure that if i were accepted, My new friends and I are gonna take ova the court BOIs, WATCH OUT!! hahaa

GWU applicant: GWU is all about diversity (OF ANY RACE AND CREED)
We hang out mostly around the city, Thursdays are a big going-out day
Go to GW athletics to find out about BBall. Good Luck!

What is the city campus like? Is it really spread out or more contained?
Is there a sense of comunity with the social life, or do most students just go out in the city for fun?
I love DC, but would someone who is from rural Maine feel out of place?
Thanks for the input.

Hey, so I live in DC and am a bit hesitant that I might already
have a pretty good feel for the whole scene here...

Where do GW kids typically hang out? Like, specifically...
It's my first choice- I'm just a bit nervous that nothing will change from hs.

I'm thinking about applying EDII but I'm somewhat hesitant. I was a little overwhelmed by the urban campus when I visited and I really liked the Mt. Vernon campus because it was a breath of fresh air; but I'm also really social. I'm afraid that if I live on the Mt. Vernon campus I will be missing out socially. Also, looking at the size of the school, do you feel like you get personal attention from your professors at all? I like to contribute in class discussion and I was wondering if there were any ways that the school makes itself a little smaller if you know what I mean? Also, how is GW school spirit? With everyone coming and going is there a sense of unity at all? Thanks for answering my questions, it will really help me out a lot! I've been really stressed about this decision.

strawberrylemons:
when the admissions rep came to my school to visit, she said that classes at mt vernon are typically smaller than those at foggy bottom. So for courses that are offered on both campuses, you may choose to register for the one at the mt vernon campus if you like. Keep in mind, however, that mt vernon students usually get first pick for the mt vernon classes.

also, you won't be missing out socially if you live at mt vernon (according to a person I know who lived at the vern during freshman year). according to previous posts, you won't really feel out of place either.

Edit:
i'd also really like the know the answer to peppermintdeluxe's questions on SMPA. I'm in the same situation. Idk if i should EDII becuase of the whole SMPA not being as reputable as other programs thing.

Inguye, I am sorry- I don't know the answer to your question about GW BA/MD. I am not in that program.

What are the good sophmore dorms???

is the only way get into the University Honors Program by applying as a freshman, or can I apply later somehow if I get accepted into GW?

Is there a campus feeling at GWU? Is it hard to meet up with people? etc..

jm816, unless it has changed this year, you can only get into the honors program by applying as a freshman.

jm816, you can only be accepted into honors as a freshman applicant. sorry

im also wondering about whether there is a campus feeling at GW because i know it's not really a traditional campus but i'm hoping there still might be some degree of campus feel to it?

also sort of similarly, would you say it's a fun school to be at? like are the people generally fun and friendly and eager to have a good time? or is everybody really serious and just works all the time (that is what i have heard in the past)?

work hard, party hard, and somewhere in between for some of us. Not really campus feeling, but opportunities to have fun, and do sports as well as participate in community initiatives are aplenty

is GWU students all preppy and wear polo and dress pants all the time?
I am all about the shorts and my Js.
So can you describe how GWU kids are dressed like

GWU app: polo? dress pants? haha! not a chance!
Wear whatever you like, although you do see good clothes, such as Abercrombie and lots of Gap, but unlike for example (and without offense ) Indiana U, you don't see too many kids in pajamas and robes walking around.
Girls are dressier though, and pay more attention to clothes, although jeans are completely Ok. Just remember, that is the difference between an urban college and a "real campus". you will fond better dressed people than if you were in a large campus, like Maryland for example.
In short, wear what you please, but pajamas is not an option.
