is it easy to double major or major/minor across different schools?
are there people double majoring in journalism and IR?

i'm double majoring in engineering and IR. It's pretty easy to get accepted in both schools but the workload is heavy, but i like it.
almost any combination of double majoring is possible as long as you can fit everything in your 4 year schedule.

Does anyone know about the cooking situation for freshman? I know about the mini-fridge and microwaves but will I have access to a freezer/oven/stovetop? I'm trying to make a list of easy things i can cook in college but i don't know what i will have access to as a freshman.

strawberry: the standard room has a small fridge/freezer/wve. Most dorms have a common kitchen ( but Thurston in its majority)
Once you are a soph, all the apts have a kitchen, or at least a common kitchen in each floor.

lnguye02,

This year the medical school only alloted 10 slots for the BA/MD program! The applicant pool is about 650, admission chose 50 for an interview! From what I've heard, most stayed with the program. Afterall, these kids are high achievers and know what they want.

This has nothing to do with the school, but did you guys do anything special during the inauguration since you were right there?

i heard that at some schools (ie USC), there are laundry services and people do your laundry for you (for $$$$, of course). so just wondering,
are there laundry services available at GW for students who don't want to do their own laundry?

tonytet: Inauguration was a BLAST. Pretty much everyone I knew went down to the Mall to see the swearing in or the parade- some woke up as early as 3 AM to go! Then at night GW hosted a huge Inaugural Ball at a really fancy hotel. It was great!

peppermintdeluxe: There are several services that will pick up your laundry at the dorm and deliver it back to you. A lot of freshmen use this, but I think it's a rip-off. There are laundry machines in every building; learn how to do it on your own :)

Like everyone I know that Thurston is a very popular dorm with freshman but I was looking at the Potomac House and I really liked what I saw of it when i visited (only the outside and part of the first floor.) I was wondering if anyone knew how the rooms are and what is the overall vibe of the students who live there.

My D lived in Potomac freshman year. It is a beautiful dorm with mostly 2 double rooms connected with and sharing a bathroom. As far as I know, Potomac is no longer a freshman dorm, though.

actually i believe potomac will be entirely freshmen next year.

when is orientation? i'm trying to plan a backpacking trip this summer, and i'm an RD transfer applicant, so it'd be good to know ahead of time for scheduling reasons if i happen to get into gwu.

and i heard there was a party dorm not as extreme as thurston, but still pretty active? would you know which one that was?

I know there are 4 orientation sessions for freshmen, but for transfers I think it's different- possibly right before the start of school? I'd call and ask.

If you're a transfer, you probably won't be put in freshman dorms. Unfortunately transfers tend to have the last pick- you might get stuck in Mitchell, which is all singles. I don't know what other dorm you're referring to besides Thurston, but I promise that no matter where you live you will have plenty of opportunities to party :)

I'd prefer to be with the freshman instead of being put among people who have already formed clicks, that's why I'm interested in a freshman dorm. As for the partying, I'm transferring from a small california state party school, and there are standards that must be upheld. :)

hey im new to college confidentioal but ive pretty much read this entire thread so im caught up to speed id say haha but i applied Regular Decision to GW (for financial reasons) but definately want to go there. would anyone know the likelyhood of getting to live in thurston as a regular decision applicant (if i get in that is). thanks!

Subectivelly, Yes, definetly! you should apply.

kurt_vonnegut: Mitchell is usually a mix of freshmen, transfers and international students, and it's right next to Thurston, so you'd be fine :) I don't know for sure if that's where you'll end up, but transfers do have the last pick of dorms, and I know a lot end up in Mitchell.

liz90: I was RD and got a quad in Thurston, as were all of my roomates freshman year. Since half the class lives there, you definitely have a good shot at getting it if you put it as your first choice!

gwsenior: I agree with you in placing Thurston first, very likely you'll get it!
good luck to all of you and congrats to the ones who made it!

In response to what do people wear:
I can't say for guys because I never pay attention to that
For a long time most gw girls made the mistake of wearing leggins as pants with long tee shirts. Big sunglasses. Uggs. A Starbucks coffee in one hand and a Goyard on the other. Actually, forget the Goyard- almost EVERYONE has a longchamp bag!! Don't get a longchamp if you are coming to GW as everyone already has one and it's getting boring. I think people are starting to move past this look now though, thank god. I blame Rachel Zoe for starting the trend (she was actually a GW alum funny enough).
I would say people generally don't care what you wear... unless you are a freshman, in a sorority, or are just part of a very affluent ground of girls who are into that- I wouldn't go trying to change my style to "fit in" as there isn't really an "in" to "fit" if that makes any sense...

Hi, I am going to be a freshman in the fall and I had a question about dorms. I am pretty sure I am going to stay at Thurston, but I was wondering if you have any recommendations or experiences about staying in doubles, quads, etc. and which you prefer. Thanks!
