i’m not sure if someone already asked this but do you know the percent of sophomores who live on verses off campus at university park? i’m trying to decide which would be best to do.

I don’t know the actual percentage (though I’m sure someone one on here does), but I know a fair amount of freshmen choose to live off campus for sophomore year. Sometimes this is by choice, and sometimes they just don’t get offered a housing contract.

I live on-campus (as a sophomore) and don’t regret it at all. You’re much closer to everything, and while you are subject to the rules and restrictions of the university, sometimes it’s worth it. I mean, if you get an apartment and have a party there, you’re the one cleaning up in the morning (or afternoon). But if you can live on-campus and have friends off that have apartments, you can have those freedoms of off-campus life, all while being conveniently situated on-campus.

Just my two cents. There are more pros and cons for each side. Frankly, I think it sucks that as a freshman you have to decide if you want to live off campus with people you barely even know so many months in advance, but such is life.

When did you find out about your admission decision for UP?

Duke I am oos (Nebraska: I assume very underrepresented) GPA 3.7 uw 3.85w ACT 25 I am a terrible standardized test taker. 5 APs Many honors classes. Have a job and lots of ecs what do you think of my chances for a history major?

Oh and I applied only for UP but OK for the summer session.

@Weatherman93: I can’t exactly remember specifics, but I think it was around January. It’s different for everyone though, so don’t base your acceptance arrival date around mine and freak out if it didn’t come yet.

@luvs2ski: You look to have a pretty good chance (for summer at least) with your GPA and non-SAT credentials. There’s a bubble chart floating around this forum somewhere, I’d advise looking at that to see where your SAT (if you took it) matches up with the acceptance decisions.

Bubble chart:

This feels weird asking a question in my own thread, but:

Does anyone have any experience with Eastview Terrace? I think I’m gonna try to live there next year, but I’m a little concerned with its isolation from everything.

Hi! I’m an OOS with a 3.52 UW gpa, don’t know my weighted GPA (my school doesnt weight), top 20%, haitian american, first generation, aps/honors, 1940 on SAT and lots of extracurriculars. Applied undecided for only the UP campus but no summer session as my parents would not allow me to do it. Applied in the beginning of October but they didnt get my transcripts til mid October at latest. Chance me?

What are my chances and how long should i expect a response?

I have a 3.2 gpa, 1830 sat (670 math, 590 writing, 570 reading), Job every summer, varsity sports, lots of club involvement and volunteer work, Alumni (my dad donates as well), and i applied for the summer sessoin. I sent my application on october 13th.

@sop520: Being a first generation Haitian-American will probably help you, whether admissions would like to admit it or not. With your GPA and SAT, I could envision you getting accepted. Not selecting summer session may end up hurting you, though I doubt it will.

@Inhabitant000: For you, being a legacy will help, as will the fact that you were willing to do summer session. Though I don’t know when you’ll get your decision, my guess is that you’ll be accepted into summer session at UP.

Also, my question about Eastview Terrace still holds true. Anyone have any advice/thoughts about it?

If I applied with a 3.9 GPA and a 5.2 weighted plus a lot of ECs, do you think I’d have a good chance? Also, do you have any knowledge of the physics program that you wouldn’t get from a pamphlet? Thanks so much.

I heard that some Majors are more/less difficult to gain admission to Main campus as. Is this true? And if so would it be better to apply as undecided if you were a borderline applicant? or Do you have any inkling as to how difficult the college of liberal arts is to get into? Thanks!

I really wanted to take astronomy classes for my science gen eds, but I’ve heard they’re hard. Do you know if it’s true? I’m just wondering because space really intrigues me.

@julieannab: With that GPA you should be fine, unless your SAT score is just really bad. Unfortunately I don’t considering everyone I know has a passionate hatred of physics. I’ve only taken one physics class here.

@sshanne36: I had a friend in high school that wanted to be in the business school, but just didn’t have the stats. So he applied as forestry or something like that, and is going to transfer to business when he can. Obviously there are gonna be stories out there of people doing similar things, as well as people that tried to cheat the system but failed. If you are nervous and just want to focus on getting in (and picking a major later), then applying to DUS isn’t a bad idea. And, no, I have no idea how how the LA college is to get into, sorry.

@kpattz: Lower level astronomy classes are apparently extremely easy (heard from many different people), so if you’re looking to just knock out your science gen-eds (without having to take Chem or Physics) I’d recommend them.

Kpattz: There are intro astronomy classes that are very easy however the 1st two astro courses for majors (astro 291 and 292 ) are extremely difficult ( typically more than half the class either drops or fails). To say you only need physics 211 as a prerequisite is a major understatement.

kpattz- hey im going for astronomy also!!

I’m a Freshman Business major at American University, and I applied for Spring 2012. I applied in early October, and I’ve yet to see any other Spring applicants gain admission or hear anything for that matter. I graduated high school with a 3.7 GPA and 1910 on my SAT. Does anyone know anything about the Spring admission process or have any feedback on my potential chances? Thanks so much.

If I applied to smeal at UP, can I still get into a program at UP and get rejected by smeal? Cuz my stats are kind of borderline:

GPA: 3.86/5
SAT: 1630
EC’s, letters, and essays Are fantastic though.

I also said yes for the summer session!
