Ask Me Anything

What dorm is mostly for freshman? And what dorms do you stay during the summer? Thanks a millions :)

Also, how do you submit housing? It just says accept it but i dont understand. It says that i accepted it the day i paid my 300…its soo confusing! Thansk for answering my questions!

Most freshmen live in East, but there are many other options. Look through this thread (towards the beginning I think) and you’ll find a pretty comprehensive list of pros and cons of each that I wrote up.

Having gone through the process two years ago, I can’t exactly remember the specifics of that process. I think as long as you pay you’re good, but if you still don’t understand it never hurts to call them.

Does putting down “undecided(business)” on the application make it slower to hear back?

I don’t see why it would, but I’m not in Admissions so don’t take my word as gospel.

How long after the “coming days” status will I find out? And does the picture changing mean anything? Mine stayed University Park.

Soon, within a few days. Picture means nothing. My son’s was Old Main, and he was accepted to a branch.

Will it lower my changes because i didnt apply for the summer session?

I just got my acceptance and I’m planning on accepting my admission soon.

I’ve read through a lot of your housing posts about the different dorms. Going to be blunt, I’m definitely looking for a freshmen experience, partying on weekends. Although I am in nursing, a really rigorous major so I’ll have to balance.

I’ve heard that with suite-like dorms, people are really isolated, everyone keeps their doors closed and arn’t really close with people in their halls. Where as, in dorms that are a little smaller and less nicer everyone mostly keeps their doors open and everyone really bonds together and becomes close. Which is definitely what I want.

Would you agree/disagree? After reading your older posts I was thinking about choosing East?

When can entering freshman start applying for dorms? I mean, abouts. Not necessarily a specific date.

@louie123: I think it might actually, can’t tell for sure though because your stats are pretty good to begin with.

@cel589: Your assessment of North (the suite-style dorms) is pretty accurate. It definitely seems like East is the place for you. I’d look to see if there are any SLOs relevant to nursing to see if you can get the best of both worlds by living in East, as well as with other people in your major.

@girls5244: Not in UP, maybe summer session or your second campus choice.

@kpattz: Sorry but I don’t even remember the general time frame of when I chose all that. This might help though ([eLiving Housing Contract System](http://www.eliving.psu.edu/new_UP_Students/)). Getting to know eliving is highly recommended so that you can understand the housing process after freshman year.

Can you get rejected to PSU or is everyone offered an option of branch campus. Heard people get envelope stating they didn’t get into UP but can apply to go to a branch

What is the best dorm to get into? Looking at other sites, I have narrowed it down to North and Pollock.

How are the co-op opportunities for psu students? I just got accepted into the college of engineering and a main selling point of the colleges i’m looking at is the co-op program.

@target1: Yes you can get straight up rejected altogether. If UP is your main choice, but you don’t have the stats to get in, they can offer you admission to your second choice (branch).

@sman5922: Here is the link to earlier in the thread where I listed pros and cons for each, it’s worth taking a look at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/1083915-ask-me-anything-8.html</a>. Lemme know if you have any further questions after reading through that. Also, if you pick Pollock, I can answer any questions you have about that since I lived there freshman year.

@redsox2323: This link might be informative: [Engineering Career Resources & Employer Relations Home](Career Resources & Employer Relations | Penn State Engineering), lemme know if you still have questions.

How do you have time to reply to all these posts haha? What is your major. Thank you for listing the pros and cons to housing. Pollok seems the most ideal for me.

For FTCAPs, must we go to UP for the testing or can we take it at a branch campus closer to our home? I mean, if we’re accepted to UP.

Let’s just say I know how to distribute my time well so I have some free time.

@kpattz: You take the FTCAP tests online first. Then you usually have to go to UP (if you’re accepted there), though I think there are some certain instances where they’ll let you make your schedule online (or they’ll make it for you). It’s definitely missing a day of school for: you can meet other people in your position, and you can familiarize yourself with the campus again while there aren’t that many people here.
