Hi Duke26,

I know you ahve said you think that i ahve a good shot at getting in for summer session. Have you met people with similar stats, or lower stats than mine? (sorry if that’s a dumb question, I still haven’t heard back and am eager).

No, but only because I didn’t ask.

I only know the stats of a few close friends.

okay, then i guess i’ll take what i get. I guess i’ll feel confident since you said summer session doesn’t look at which major you are.

Thanks Duke I appreciate your opinion.

If I could ask, by the way, what is your major?, and what were your general stats when you got accepted into University Park?

Thanks again! Any additional information about the meteorology program and the difficulty there may be to getting into there is always welcome :)

I already know my SAT scores are holding me back, but it’s too late to take them again…

GPA: 3.62 W
SAT: 1650/2400 </3
Out Of State
African-American (parents immigrated, widow)

A lot of EC’s: Big Brother Big Sister (for 2 years), Youth Group Leader, Key Club Member, Volunteer for nursery school twice a month since 8th grade, Sunday school teacher, After school volunteer for middle schoolers, etc.

Do I have a shot for University Park? My bro also applied two years ago and he got accepted, but he had wayy better stats then me =/. He didn’t end up going there though.

Just got accepted and already committed to going to Penn State for Engineering! As much as I like to party and meet new people, I know I’m there for the education so I want to make sure I’m always in check. I’m thinking about doing the FISE living option due to it having free tutoring and being surrounded by the more studious people at PSU that are all taking the same classes as me. Duke26 or anyone else, could you tell me what you have heard from people that were in it? And since it is in East Halls, will it still be possible to get to know, party, and become friends with all the other freshmen not in the living option?? Thanks a lot everyone!

Well I guess I’m the first international student that post here.
I took like over 3 hours to read every reply to get a little bit help to my personal circumstances.
So first of all, I’m not a freshman. I went to Ohio State University 2010 fall and spent my freshman year there. Accident happened late this spring, just 2 weeks before final week and summer break, because of some complicated reason, I got dismissed from university. Well I finished my finals and came back home. Regarding to some psychological disorder, I paused study from summer till now.
I have a friend who got in Penn State, Lehigh Valley rather than Park, and she really hope I can be there with her since I mentioned transfer plan when we talked. So I applied as a Spring 2012 transfer and submitted my application early this September.
My HS gpa is 3.97 (not weighted) and for freshman year is 3. I had a lot leadership experiences also took part in plenty volunteer activities such as 2008 Olympic Games and 2009 Summer Davos Economic Forum. Pretty good at writing, singing and debating.

I know the key point is my dismissal history. I’ve already wrote hundreds of emails with Judicial Affairs Office at Lehigh Valley and they helped me passed my application to University Park but last week I received the decision that they may not recommend me to admission progress for spring semester. So it means after such a long time, from September to December, my application hasn’t been reviewed by admission office. They suggested me to move forward my application to Summer 2012 after I updating a few professional documents. But actually I even don’t understand how to move it forward since my status still shows as a hold on it instead of a final decision. If so, another problem is that my TOEFL score expired this November…and there’s no way to register a new test before fall since no seats available now…

If anyone here could give me a little piece of help to my case, I’ll be greatly thankful and appreciated!!!

@quinsy42: According to the bubble-chart, you look to be accepted for a satellite, maybe summer session if they look at all your ECs.

@dood1234: I actually have a friend who lived in FISE last year, and all of his best friends are from that floor. You should have no problem meeting people on and off your floor.

@YJELAINE: I certainly don’t envy your position. I don’t what to tell you, sorry.

When applying next year is it better to apply DUS or straight to the College of Engineering. Also does the summer session give you a better chance of getting in to UP. Thanks!

How would you say the dorms are? And how has the campus been since the recent scandal?

@DylanK: I’m not sure about specifics like that, though switching into the CoE isn’t difficult once you’re there.

andybatts: There are many different types of dorms there. I wrote up a pros/cons list of each one somewhere in this thread, I’d suggest finding that.

I think the campus has responded very well to the entire scandal. I will admit that it was an awkwardly annoying last month and a half on campus: you never want to see that many news cameras near your campus, nor could you really escape it since the media seemed to just love covering it. It was nice to know that everyone else was feeling the same way though.Though the “riot” didn’t bring much positive attention to campus, I’m proud of how my fellow students (both past and present) bonded even closer together in these troubling times.

Hey man I was wondering if you could clarify this rumor. A lot of people are saying that when you receive your “coming days status” and if the University Park picture remains the same it means you have been accepted to UP. If it changes to the lion does it mean you have been denied or sent to your alternate campus?

Is this true?

Also, I also applied for Summer Session. (Applied Nov. 30th) Does this mean I would hear back quicker? How long did it take for your “coming days status” to change to a decision?

How do you keep warm on really cold days when you have to walk across campus to get to class? I know there’s only so much you can do, but what are some of the better/ more popular fashion choices for that specific need?

asheikh-My son’s picture stayed the same (UP picture)and he was accepted to a branch.

Slipjig - can you post his stats? Are you instate or out of state? Summer or Fall semester?

@asheikh19: I really wouldn’t put much stock in Internet rumors about pictures. Just relax, and if it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen.

@kpattz: Other than the obvious (hat, gloves, scarf, heavy clothes, etc.)? People like to take the bus instead of walking across campus, or they’ll stop in a building and chill for a while to warm up. The worst isn’t necessarily the cold, but the wind. Good God does it get windy there.

Just get yourself a nice heavy jacket and hat.

Thanks! I’m just really nervous because I desperately want to get into UP, haha. Can you describe the typical freshmen atmosphere? Where do they usually study/hangout/party? How is your overall experience at penn state right now?

asheikh-His stats are so-so. GPA pretty good, SATs not fabulous. He knew that UP was a reach for him, even Summer. We are in-state, daughter is a sophomore at UP.

Hmm. I’m sorry. UP is also a reach for me. Do you know how long it took for the coming days status to change to a decision for him?
