Ask Me Anything

Our daughter was accepted for fall 2011 at UP. My question is about the different meal plans. We chose # 3 but was wondering if that was best, because can’t you buy food as other places besides the cafeteria? What food plan did you get? Thanks:)

I chose #3 too, but ended up adding a little more at the end of the semester. I would advise to stick with what you picked, because you can always add on. Conversely, if you’re left with a ton of points at the end of the semester, they roll over to the next one. Though the system can seem confusing at first, I really like how Penn State does the dining points and such.

There are convenience store-like places that are usually near the dining halls, they accept meal points. Off-campus though, some places accept LionCash, not meal points.

What’s lion cash? and how does that work?

This pretty much sums it up better than I could: [Penn State id+: LionCash+](http://www.idcard.psu.edu/students/lioncash.shtml)

When is the decision coming out?

It’s pretty weird for me to use your own thread as an answer

what you mean? Duke26

I was accepted to Penn state and am so happy about that but I’m really concerned about being able to major in music, specifically getting a BM in composition. Does anyone know how declaring a music major works?

Re: Food plans When S was living in the dorm it was basically a set amount to “buy in” to the program, then pay for each point. You were able pay to for additional points with a credit card, so we went for a small plan, then racked up a lot of credit card points adding to it. (It’s easy to do online.) That also meant PSU wasn’t sitting on our money all semester.

Thank you duke26 and 1moremom

Does anybody know about the special interest housing for engineering & applied sciences ? How are they ? Do you recommend it for an incoming freshman ?

[EASI Home Page](<a href=“Student Organizations | Penn State Student Affairs”>Student Organizations | Penn State Student Affairs)

I know it’s in Pollock, which is an ideal location, though Beaver’s kinda off to the side. I’d recommend an SLO if you know that’s what you want to do, it seems like a good bonding-type experience.

E House (for engineering) is in West, just up the street from Hammond and probably the closet dorm to the west campus buildings and IST. My S lived there for two years and it worked out well for him.

^ is housing in E house guaranteed all 4 years ?

Hey

I got accepted at College of Engineering at University Park for Fall 2011. I wanted to ask that does PSU look at final transcripts? If yes, do they expect some specific grade or they just want a proof of passing, or they don’t require the final transcripts at all.

I am from India and currently taking 12th Grade exams.

Thanks

GodgivenWealth, I believe t is, as long as you fulfill the commitments involved. You might want to verify that with housing.

I’m not in Admissions or anything so don’t take my word for this and fall off the face of the earth with your grades, but I doubt they have the time to look at everyone’s final grades. Slacking really hard right before college would make things difficult in the first semester (because you’ll basically forget how to work hard), so it’s better to just keep the train movin’ straight through senior year.

Hope that helped. One of the more experienced posters will probably come in and give a better answer though.

I am an OOS & starting UP in the Fall. My parents are moving to PA. Can I file In-state residency a year later?

I was in a similar situation when I applied to Rutgers. I don’t know the answer to this because it’s such a specific case, but you should DEFINITELY call Admissions because that could save you a lot in the long run.

Bump bump bump
