Just say to her what DMX would say to a female news reporter:

"MIND YOUR BUSINESS LADY"

1) WHy do you keep ignoring me?
2) HOw do you get sand out of yer hair?

@nixxi - 1) because it strenuous trying to always debate with you.
2) portable vacuum and/or shower.

Dear Mike,
How can I convince my dog to stop jumpin on my bed and then licking me when I'm sleeping?? (That always wakes me up.)

@ondo3 - Keep him out of your room. Close your door.

why not take the dog to one of those places where they can be trained??

Dear Mike the omniscient,

I've been told that I'm a cocky person and what's ironic about this is that I'm at the same time a quiet person. This girl told me that it's all in the way I look at people and the way I talk? Is there any such thing as being a quiet, cocky person? Can there really be something as a condescending look? If yes, how do I change this?

@700- well you can always throw money at a problem, but the original way is cost beneficial.

@me - There is definitly such a thing as a quiet cocky person. My AP Stat teacher flipped out at me because I was giving her "condescending looks" when I didn't understand something. For some people, "I don't get it" means, "I can't believe you couldn't explain this correctly". The key way to changing this is to know when these condescending looks occur and think differnt thoughts which will translate on your face. Learn to be empathetic. You may sound cocky due to haughty voice inflections. Listen to some stand-up-comedy to learn how to speak in a way that doesn't take yourself seriously.

@ax - 1) my last four digits are 1337
2) because you asked

@HO - I like the sound of my own voice.

Dear Mike,

I think my chemistry teacher hates me for some reason. Whenever I walk into the classroom, I smile at him and say "hey Mr._____," but he always ignores me and never says hi back and then this one time another student came by and said hi and he said "Ah, my more favored student." What should I do??

I havent been able to get good sleep as a result of this.

@efl - Stay after school with your chem teacher for extra help. This will be a good time to show that you want to improve the relationship and that you have an interest in his particular area of study.

Wouldn't that just be infuriating? It'd look like she's just trying to be a sycophant when full aware that he doesn't like her?

Mike,

What are the beaches like on LBI? Is this a good time for me to visit? (I live in Mercer County)

Thanks for the advice...

@enn_ - Relationships with teachers can always be improved. They aren't out to get you, unless you've done something to deserve it, in which case, an apology my be nessecary.

@mine - Sadly, we have one of the top 10 beaches in the WORLD. The sand is granular and soft, and the ocean is clean. The months of July and August are usually swamped with tourists, many of whom are New York (esp. Long Island) Jews. Many people also come down for Chowderfest every fall. Its officially when the summer ends. Afterwards the town shuts down until memorial day. If you like quality beaches with peace and quiet, go then. If you want a buzzing party atmosphere, come now. Beware, there is hyperinflation on the island, because people on vacation spend more for no reason.

Dear Mike,
1) Is knowledge of AB Calculus required for BC Calc?
2) Do you recommend taking higher level math, such as Differential Equations and Linear Algebra from EPGY?
3) How would one go about organizing a Math Club? Science?

Thanks.

@chao - BC calc is 2/3 AB calc, I think with a little (not much) earnest effort you can take the BC test with an AB class, however I didn't do this, due to lack of information.

I didn't do the EPGY program, but I've heard nothing but good things from it, colleges also look favorably on people who are way beyond BC calc.

Find out the local and national contests in the area. AMC is one thats easy to do. Find a math teacher who wants to be the advisor, and petition the board to allocate funds. Also make it a free tudoring service for the selected subject.

Though the mods editied my column to "advice" I just want to answer questions, whatever they may be.

dear mike,
is it safe to drink 5 or 6 cans of coke each day?
