For people who are not aware of the class profile posted in the College Counseling section of school’s website, the class profile is like an abbreviated version of Blue Book. Check it out: http://www.andover.edu/Academics/CollegeCounseling/Documents/PhillipsAcademySchoolProfile2015-2016.pdf
^^ That is, an abbreviated version of blue book plus the input (admission data) and output (college destination) info for a particular class and over time.
Hello everyone!
I have some questions. We’re from Italy, so the school system is quite different.
1- I know, 12th Grade entry is really hard. But if you succeed in getting in, how will social life be like for a student? Would she (my daughter) be able to get along well? It depends on the student, of course, but in general?
And in the academics? Have these sts very tough time?
2- why is being a leader in clubs so important? In Italy we absolutely do not have this kind of ‘tradition’
3- If the student is not interested in college admission (in our specific case my d should come back to Italy and finish her school here) are clubs leadership positions still so important?
I really thank you for your replies!
@Ranu67: I know each year there are a few 12th graders starting at Andover (no more than 5/6 I’d say), and I have the impression most of them are international students and at least some through exchange programs. The school has designed a program specifically for one year seniors (maybe overlapping with the program for PG’s). I think academically your D will be fine should she get in.
Socially, obviously she will interact with her peers in classEs and activities she’s involved in. OTOH, while almost everyone is friendly there, students who have been there longer may have already formed their circles of friends. If she wants to (she doesn’t have to) join she needs to be more proactive. She may develop close friendships with the few one year seniors and perhaps with some PGs.
Leadership experience and skills are valued at US colleges especially by elite colleges. And the short answer to your Q3 is no. Hope this helps.
Thanks! This helps us a lot!
