Hi! Recently got accepted into CAS. I´d love to know about social life at BU. I want to rush and I am a very social person in that I need a good party scene at a school to have a good time (as bad as it may sound). How big is greek life and how accessible is the party scene?
@senioritisfr Greek life isn’t HUGE here but there are many sororities and frats for people to join. Everyone who wants to rush ends up very happy with their bids from all those I’ve talked to, so you definitely won’t have an issue. I’m not in a sorority and I’ve had connections to get to parties pretty much every weekend, even though I don’t usually go. The party/Greek life scene definitely isn’t as obvious as they are for state schools, but it exists and you can make the most of it if you choose to.
From what I’ve heard it seems like all of the transfer and international students are put into Danielson Hall for housing, and it is off campus and feels secluded and you are not a part of the main campus. If I go through with this guaranteed transfer program what will be my housing options? How limited will they be?
@flhs23 I don’t know about how guaranteed transfer housing works, but international students definitely do not get put into Danielson more than any other population. Danielson isn’t necessarily off campus either, it’s just a little bit further than East/Central campus. I wish I knew more about that tho, sorry ):
@woahitsnicole Hi! BU is currently one of my top choices and I was accepted into Questrom. What would you recommend would be the best housing choice considering proximity to classes, dining halls, and freshmen social environment?
@grvcekim Definitely Warren. I’m also in Questrom and live in Warren and it makes my life so easy. You’ll definitely have at least 2 classes in Questrom next year so it’s definitely the most convenient option (dining hall in it, close to everything, etc). Plus, all my close friends either live on my floor or on other floors in Warren and I’m sure it will be similar for you as well
did you turn in your non custodial parent profile on time (if you had one) & how was your aid package?
@cercit20 I did not turn in a non-custodial parent profile, and I didn’t get any grants from the government or BU, but I got a Presidential Scholarship so that covers part of my tuition
Is it hard to get into a dual degree program at questrom? Im got accepted into COM.
@ticklemepark I think dual-degree is something you can switch into right when you get here. It’s definitely very doable, I know many people doing dual-degrees between COM and other schools!
Hi again @woahitsnicole ! thanks for taking questions about BU.
My S19 is very interested in the Film/TV program, but he really wants a school with sporting events/school spirit (UT Austin, UMich, etc.) - I know there isn’t a football team at BU, but how is the school spirit overall?
@romns116 School spirit is pretty prominent here! Our hockey team is reallyyyy good, I go to almost all of the home games and the atmosphere is really incredible. If he’s alright with sacrificing a football school for more of a hockey school, he will have no problem here. The pride is great, especially when we play our rival (BC)
Good afternoon! I guess I might have several questions. (Hopefully this isn’t too much…)
@TT2018 Hey, no worries at all! I think ENG is hard to switch into, but I am really not sure about it so I’d call BU and ask specifically. I currently live in a freshman dorm and I find it quite comfortable. My building is huge (like 2,000 students) so it’s packed in that there are a lot of people living here, but it doesn’t feel crazy or hectic at all or anything. It is true that there’s no AC, but tbh as long as you bring a good fan it’s manageable. So far BU has been very safe for me, I’ve had friends from other schools come and we’ve stayed up walking around campus till like 4am and I never once thought I was in any kind of danger. And in terms of GPA, it depends on the major. Some are easier than others, as a business student I think it’s fair to say you earn what you study for. But, for harder majors like engineering it’s more difficult, but that’s to be expected at pretty much any well accredited college!
Hi @woahitsnicole ! I am an incoming freshman accepted into the CAS. I’m currently trying to choose housing. Which dorms are closest to the CAS? Also, is it true that none of the freshman dorms have AC? On a scale of “reasonable” to “shoebox”, how small are the rooms?
@vballer Warren Towers is the closest to CAS! It is true that none of the dorms have AC, but it’s completely manageable as long as you bring a fan. I don’t remember ever being super hot in my room, and they’re really not that small at all. Super super reasonable in my opinion, I did not need any more space than what I got
Hey guys! I recently committed to BU and was wondering where I get apparel and when I should complete my application for housing?
Also in regards to housing, what is the best place for freshmen?
Some info for housing:
Thank you! That made me feel a lot better about going to BU.
