Current freshman, here to help if anyone has questions!
What do you like/dislike so far about BU? Were there any surprises?
What are the good dorms to live in at BU?
@panda987 that is a hard question to answer because it depends on a lot of things like: what year are you? Where are your classes? Do you prefer to be closer of further away from classes? How close do you want to be to a dining hall? Are you an athlete? Etc.
There are some “nicer” student apartments for upperclassmen, for instance, that many people like living in but I would never want one because I don’t want to live in West
@AwesomeAxolotl junior, a transfer, and a computer science student (I know I shouldn’t be getting too curious since I haven’t been accepted yet but I still am XD) I’d prefer if they were close to classes, I feel like West is too far.
@AwesomeAxolotl would you mind also giving recommendations for a hopeful (reeeally keeping my fingers crossed, I love BU!!) freshman international relations major??? I would like to be fairly close to my classes, and I really value both being comfortable and being social (though I know both of those may not be possible hahah)
Freshman in CAS looking for social atmosphere should definitely go for warren. Transfers are hard because they arent given high priority in housing selection, but a junior in CAS looking to stay close I would recommend trying for bay state, MAYBE hojo but probably not, potentially myles, and even south which is both dorms and apartments.
@collegevisit So far I really like the atmosphere more than anything. People are so friendly and there are tons and tons of people to meet and connect with. Plus there’s so much to do off campus, I love being able to go for a walk in the middle of the city. Generally having a great time, I really don’t dislike that much honesty maybe that the dorm I’m in isn’t the cleanest?
@panda987 @sunflowerlover I live in Warren and it’s been pretty nice & comfortable! If you’re going into CFA or CGS I would probably recommend West, but everywhere else is closest to East Campus. Warren is just where you meet a lot of people and where a ton of your friends live. Sure it could be cleaner and more up-to-date but for what it’s worth it’s a worthwhile freshman dorm
@sunflowerlover, when you say you are looking for a social environment, how social of an environment are you looking for? If you are the type of person that wants to be around other people all of the time, I would say @AwesomeAxolotl’s suggestion that a junior should try for Bay State may not be for you.
My son is a freshman and living on Bay State. It’s been the perfect living situation for him (quiet dorm experience). I can see why Juniors and Seniors would live on Bay State. By the time they reach their junior/ senior year, have established their friendships their social setting is set and their focus has shifted and their time is spent in class, working, internships. My son prefers living in the calmer/ quieter environment but he is also someone who finds activities on campus and in the city.
Good luck!
@paveyourpath @sunflowerlover was not who I suggested Bay State for. That was for a junior that just said they didn’t like West and were in CAS, with no other criteria. Sunflowerlover said they were a freshman in CAS looking for social life, not junior, so I said warren.
Sorry, I see now that your comment was intended for @panda987.
Thank you for starting this thread and your time in clarifying the following.
Have received an email for my DS’s application, saying that he is being considered for Trustee scholarship. Does this mean he got accepted for BU.
@InfoRequest Did your son complete the Trustees essays on his Common App?
http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/tuition-aid-scholarships/scholarships/trustee/apply/
It may just be confirmation that he completed the essays.
Thank you @TomSrOfBoston for your response. Yes he did complete and submit Trustee essay as well.
Once an application is submitted, how long does it take for BU to let you know if you are a contender for the Trustees Scholarship (as @InfoRequest has mentioned about her DS)? Just curious. My D just submitted her RD application and she did apply for the Kilachand Honors College as well as for the Trustees. It was quite an application. Thanks for any info.
If I transfer as a sophomore can I still live in warren towers?
@Winky1 Trustees Scholarship announcements for RD have come out a few days before all RD decisions are announced in mid-March.
