Current freshman, here to answer any questions for prospective students!
When did you hear back if you applied regular decision? And how did financial aid compensate for the tuition? I’m waiting to hear back but I’m not sure if I can afford it
Is BU a fun school? I was accepted ED and am kinda worried since it’s a city school that i won’t be able to experience the stereotypical/average college experience of games/parties/etc!
@fionapare Regular decision is usually middle of March I think? I did ED so I’m not totally positive, and I personally didn’t get any grant financial aid because my family income was too high, however I got a $20,000 merit scholarship so that cuts tuition nicely (FYI BU is still very expensive, my income was too high for what BU believed is grant money worthy, but I am in no means easily able to afford all the tuition haha)
@lacollege Yeah it’s very fun! Honestly, no matter who you are you’re able to go out and party if you choose to. I know tons of people who go out and party regularly, and some who don’t at all. I’m in the middle, I’ve gone out a few times to some frats and they’ve been pretty fun, but again totally just up to whether or not you’re up for it. Also, hockey games are crazy fun if you like the sport, I go to so many games and they’re my favorite part of the weekend most of the time
How are the dorms? Are there any that are better than others? What kind of requests could you make when you applied for housing? I know some schools allow you to be pretty specific while others are broad. Also, how are the dining halls/dining plans?
@rosebudd21 The dorms really aren’t that bad. They get much nicer as you get older, as freshman don’t have too many options of where to live. My advice for freshmen is to live in freshmen buildings (ex. Warren or West) because a lot of your friends will come from there. Again, incoming freshmen don’t have too many options when applying for housing, but they do let you list your top 3 choices for location and type of room (double, triple, quad, etc). But with that in mind, you aren’t guaranteed to get what you request. Dining halls are all really good, there are tons of options for what to eat and the plans are pretty easy to pick based on your eating habits

I’m in CAS and i want to live in west next year! do you think that’s a good idea since Warren is much closer?
@lacollege If you want to live in West by all means go for it, I know a girl who’s in CAS and lives in West and loves it! It’s perfectly fine as long as you won’t mind walking back and forth every day, it’s not bad at all in the summer/fall but when it’s cold and raining I can imagine it gets annoying. But, there’s a bus, so it’s definitely manageable!
What items do you recommend bringing vs what items do you think are unnecessary to bring when moving in? Also this might be a weird question but how is the air conditioning/heating in Warren/West–does it err on the colder side no matter the weather (but especially the summer)?
@futurehusky Warren and West are not air conditioned.
Do the Towers have a.c.?
@Winky1 Nope.
@futurehusky Oh man that’s a difficult question because it’s fairly different for everyone! There are some things I didn’t need that all my friends have and vice versa. If you have specifics you want to list by all means go ahead, I really can’t think of anything significant off the top of my head
BU or Northeastern???
@“Pakshal Mehta” Depends on what you’re looking for. I personally didn’t like the idea of doing 5 years of college that you would almost definitely need to do through Northeastern’s co-op program, so I liked BU a lot more. BU is more traditional because it doesn’t have anything like that so it’s a pretty normal college experience. Northeastern’s co-op program makes it a bit different, so depends which you value more. Some of my closest friends go there and they love it, so it’s a great school, as is BU of course
Thank you @woahitsnicole for helping with the questions.
admitted to class of 2022 for environmental science, got BU’s presidential scholarship…want to dual major in env and public policy, what would be a good dorm?
@BU2022 Probably Warren since it’s closest to CAS, but that depends on if you value the convenience over the culture more!
@woahitsnicole Hey, Thank you for answering all these questions.
What would be a good dorm for a business major ( Questrom )??
