Ask questions about BU here!

Hey guys to all the people who applied ED in the previous years: when did your app status message change? Just tryna get an estimate :)) thank you

Last week D19 applied RD to BU through the Common App, and hasn’t received any confirmation email from BU, or login information. How long does it take?

Does anyone know when did the ED result came out last year?

@angelah423 december 11th

I would hope that deflation is now a thing of the past. That’s why I am concerned for my son as professors at BU used to tell us that only one in their class gets an A (both were SMG classes. It’s legacy for him that’s why he is applying to BU plus now he loves Boston after our city visit

@citygirl0719 hey!! i’m so sorry for the late response, but i had a 30 ACT and a 3.81 weighted gpa/4.5-- 3.67 unweighted. weighted gpa doesn’t help much though because that depends on how your individual school weighs classes, the difficulty of your school, and the percentiles. so for me, when i looked on naviance my weighted gpa was right in the middle of the range of accepted students, but at another school that could be a 4.0/4.5. i’m currently living in sleeper hall and i really like it!! while i’m going to try and avoid traditional dorms next year, i think it is perfectly average in terms of large college dorms. the bathrooms are kinda icky but it’s doable. i’m an ambivert so i’m very outgoing with friends but sometimes i have a tough time meeting new people, and i’ve definitely made friends!! while i don’t have any best best friends in the whole wide world just yet, i do have a nice circle of friends :slight_smile: the first semester freshman year isn’t much of an indicator though. and my classes are WONDERFUL i love my professors, i’ve done well so far, and i feel like i’m really learning. but, i’m an international relations student and not a stem student. i know a lot of people are majoring in bio or chem or something like that, and despite studying for hours and hours they’re going to end up with gpas below a 3.0 for the semester. bu is known to be incredibly challenging, especially for stem majors, and on the bright side grad schools know this and take that into account, but it isn’t fun for your ego. please let me know if you have anymore questions!!!

@airway1 it depends on what your son’s major is!! as i wrote above stem majors have it REALLY rough, but on the flip side in my russian class my professor purposefully gave us all above an 80 on the tests because she doesn’t want to see our gpas suffer. i would say for the humanities it isn’t as much of a problem, but if your son wants to go into something stem related be cautious…

and i absolutely love BU i don’t want to sway anyone away from it, it is just an incredibly challenging school academically

@imsuperscaredomg i think mine changed 2 or 3 weeks before ED came out!!

@sunflowerlover lol yeah my message changed 2 weeks ago!! thank you girl :))

@imsuperscaredomg ahhhh congratulations!!! i know this is early but it’s just a fact at this point LOL i look forward to seeing you on campus next fall :slight_smile:

@sunflowerlover haha im hoping the message still indicates acceptance!!! and i look forward to seeing you next fall too :)) are you cas?

yes!!! i’m an IR major :slight_smile:

Haha okay so if I get in I hope to see you there :)) @sunflowerlover

Are singles easy to come by for freshmen?

When does BU send the acceptance LETTERS? like the physical mail?

boston u supposedly cover 92% of need based aid. my efc is 7114, when i did a cost calculator it said that my net price would be like $52,000!! whattt??? the total price is like $70,000. i don’t understand why it’s like that

@gherbss 92% is an average over all students. You may get 100% or you may get nothing.

@TomSrOfBoston that 92% is not the percentage of students that get aid… it’s the percentage of need based aid covered individually for everyone who gets aid… like what your saying makes no sense… i can’t just not get aid, the tuition is the total salary of my parents

@gherbss That is not what I said. On average 92% of need across all students is met. It is not the amount of your need, or anyone’s need, that will be met.

@gherbss

BU uses the Profile to determine awarding of need based aid. Your FAFSA EFC really is meaningless. What was on your Profile…parents divorced? Parents self employed? Equity in primary residence? Parents own a business? What?

BU does not guarantee to meet full need for all accepted students…and they don’t. Your full need just might have NOT been met. You aren’t the only one.

If your family can’t afford a $70,000 plus a year college that does not guarantee to meet full need for all…then you need to look at less costly options.
