alright so i dont know if i wanna take the 16 or 1 series for math so is it possible to take math 1A for the fall semester and take 16B for the spring semester if i plan on switching my major from MCB (which requires the 1 series) to integrative biology (which accepts both the 1 and 16 series)

I know I posted this before, but What kind of laptop should a history major at Cal get?

I've been researching laptops, and I'm wondering which one I should get. Any suggestions and retailers would be appreciated!

PS: I'm leaning towards a mac, but only cause its trendy.

If you want to go low budget, Dells are a pretty good bargain especially with the student discounts you can get at delluniversity.com and additional stackable coupons. But I also have to note that some people love their Dells and others just hate them. If you don't mind spending a little extra, HP computers are good. They are definitely reliable. Obviously if you have no price limit, go for the high end Sonys or Fujitsus.

The majority I've seen are dells and macs. Dells are a great deal.

Sorry for being completely off topic ...
I was trying to sign up for Telebears last night (between 8-12 pm) and the site told me that my "appointment" wasn't until July 25th at 4:20 pm. ***? I mean, didn't phase II start on the 18th? Anyone else experience this?

lol.. sorry this funny to hear.. But don't worry, you didn't miss anything. Phase 2 appointments as a whole start on the 18th. But what only matters to you is your individual appointment. You won't be able to sign up for classes until your scheduled time.

what do you think of the RSF?

Is it true that there is only one food place on the entire campus that you can use ATM/Credit Cards?

cs-
thanks for the reply. I'd kind of like to get telebears over with, but I guess I don't have a choice. Weird ... it looks like cc censored my frustrated "wt f"

The RSF is pretty good as a whole, but it really depends on how you use it. There are a lot of equipment like the staircase, treadmills, but if you live in Unit 1 or 2 (I'm not sure if Unit 3 has one) there's an exercise room downstairs that has them too so usually people don't bother going all the way to the RSF to use them. The pool's pretty nice but rec swim hours are limited. They offer free classes on things like yoga which some people really get into. The ping pong tables and basketball courts are pretty nice too.

On campus...maybe. But really, the only time you want to eat on-campus is by using your meal points, because 1-2 blocks right off campus (you'll pass them on the way to your dorm, I'm sure) there are tons of great restaurants that are pretty cheap and almost all of them take credit cards.

lol, somebody's appointment is at 4:20pm....that's quintessentially berkeley, i say it's good luck!

can you still sign up for classes or change your schedule after your appointment time?

pikasof: yes, from 7pm-12am I believe.

punkdudeus: did you just use "berkeley" as an adjective? :p

hey guys!
I am deciding whether I should join a fraternity next year at Berkeley
how are the fraternities? are they useful socially and academically? any specific recommendations?

thanks!

I think you should check out the frats during welcome week. They have a lot of parties and events going on. There are a lot of different frats that do different things. There are some that you join to find parties/alcohol, some that do community service, some that have religious themes, and some that help you academically (like the pre-med frat). It's all about what you're looking for.

I'm an incoming EECS freshman at Cal. Could I apply to like 4 URAPs at the start of the year and have an okay chance at getting one? Is it worth it? And is it rigorous? I'm planning on taking CS61A, Math 1A, Chem 1A, some R&C... and maybe a seminar.

dood, just take classes, relax, u got like 4 years to do everything, take it easy and have a good time your first year.

what are URAPs?

anyways, since no one has been responding to my thread, I guess Ill post a quick question here:

What are my Chances for wait listed Taekwondo + Volleyball ?(PE Classes)
I think I am #4 for a class of 26 in taekwondo, and #8 for a class of 30 in volleyball (high intermed).

you'll most likely get into the first one, good chance of the second one

Hi guys! Do you think this chedule is doable. I'm a transfer student, and this is my first semester. I know being a transfer is a disadvantage.

HISTORY 7A Lec 4
HISTORY 7A Dis
MATH 74 3
MATH 110 4
MATH 113 4

15 units is a lot, but if I decide not to take a 4-unit class. I only have 11 units which will affect my fin. aid. I don't know what to do now.
