I submitted an application and about 4 months later, I got accepted. That's how I got into Cal.

Any recommended places to buy textbooks? I know there is the Cal student store and Ned's. Are there any others you recommend? How come the Cal store wont let us pre-order used textbooks?

p.s. do you usually keep your textbook for reference or sell them again back to ppl/stores?

do you pay for textbooks with your own $, or does financial aid cover it?

Anyone know how the single rooms at Unit 3 are? I'm a junior transfer student and got a single at Beverly Cleary Hall, anyone else in the same boat as me?

Thanks sunsurfN_sand!
When would be the move in "rush hours"?? I want to take my parents for a SF tour so I want to show them as much as i can.

If I remember correctly, the rush hours are early in the morning to around noon...it starts to die off a little bit after that, but it'll be pretty much packed until the afternoon.

so when's the best time to move in?

I got in to Cal the same way tastyb33f got in.... applied, 4 months later I got an acceptance and now I go to Cal.

urd0rkk: Textbooks, I shopped a lot last year and found the bookstore on campus to be fairly competitive with other booksellers including Neds. I also like the idea of being able to return books I don't need if I decide no to take a class, which happens.
I kept some of my books from 1st year and sold some on amazon.com after each semester... for more many than the buyback was at the bookstore. Worked out good.

d=] : students are responsible for paying for your textbooks... if you are expecting a refund from financial aid then you should get an EFT around move-in tiime.

ruyi: If you are a freshman, arrive early. Last year I thought the process was very smooth. There were no dreadfully long waits for parking in front of the units, etc. It's kind of an exciting day. And you will want to get settled, get rid of your parents and family (although there is stuff for them to do around Campus if I remember...) and get out there and start meeting some of your floormates.

^ what is..."early?" lol. 10 am? noon?

early= before noon

Thanks CA2006~
It seems like you check out more than the Cal student store and Ned's? are there any other stores to consider?

urd0rkk: Not around campus that I know of. You can buy through several websites though but factor in returns and shipping charges...

If I'm joining intramural volleyball, is should I still take the PE: volleyball intermediate?

Does anyone use the FaceBook market system to sell books?

ooh I'm going to take intramural volleyball too! Hi :)

sorry for the digression lol

pikasof - absolutely. just take a browse around fb marketplace and you'll find some pretty good deals (if you're lucky). my friend bought his car off fb marketplace for about $5000. Granted, it was a 92 civic, but still. a friggin car.

urd0rkk: hahah hi!! are you planning to take PE volleyball too tho?

tastyb33f: thanks i'll go check it out now.... see what's on sale :D

yep, Im in the intermediate volleyball for PE. Even if you're on waitlist, the instructor will very likely let you in.
