Does anyone know what happens if you submit your SIR to CAL & then decide to go to another school?
Do you just loose $100?
Can you apply for housing before you submit your SIR?
If not, when can you apply for housing?
THANKS

hey i actually asked this in another thread, but what the hell, it can't hurt to doulbe check:

my question is this: i was accepted to berkeley's college of engineering, but now i'm not sure if i want to do engineering (i was actually thinking of doing premed). is switching colleges doable/easy?

Is it of any benefit to apply earlier to housing? Is it first come first serve or does it not matter as long as you get the housing application in by May 3rd?

Is it hard to change from an architecture major to anything else at berkeley? i heard that architecture major hardly get any sleep.

Incoming freshmen are guaranteed two years of housing; then what happens? Is on-campus housing available after the first two years at all? At many schools we visited, although housing may not be guaranteed for all four years, we were told it is generally available as most want to move off campus anyway. Is this true at Cal?

Schmoomcgoo:
Yeah, that's generally true. I would say 75% of students probably move out of the dorms after their first year. If you want to, however, you could probably get housing pretty easily as a junior/senior. Non-freshman even get priority in choosing where they want to live, and have the opportunity of living in singles/suites/mini-suites that aren't necessarily available to most freshmen. There are also really nice apartments close to campus that are run by the UC and are entirely for upperclassmen. So yeah, I wouldn't worry about housing after two years, because there are certainly plenty of options if you want to stay in the dorms.

If you want out of engineering, I'd recommend getting out as soon as possible. If you do engineering for a semester or two, get terrible grades, you might have a tough time transferring out. L&S requires 3.0 GPA to transfer in, so if you're GPA's under 3.0 L&S may not let you in.

It shouldn't be hard to transfer into L&S, where most majors are. And yes, the architecture projects are crazzzzy.

Yes, on-campus housing is available after two years. In fact, there are some housing that's only available to 3rd and 4th years. Wada is one of them. It's an apartment-style dormitory for upper-classmen, so it shouldn't be too hard to get. If you want to get into the hallway-style dorms that mostly house freshmen though, you may or may not get it depending on space...

hey im an incoming freshman and was wondering if i was admitted into school of engineering. When i had applied i had applied under mechanical eng could i change to electrical engineering? wt would be the procedure?

Thanks!

You can but you have to apply for the major change. I think you fill out an application around February. Taking some EECS courses might help. Ask your advisor about it.

can you tell me about the political science department ?

College ******* lists Berkeley as a "C+" in drugs. Is this as bad as it sounds? Are a considerable number of students this stupid? I'd like to believe otherwise.

No way is berkeley c+ in drugs.... there are tons of good drugs at berkeley!

Hi! I was wondering if there are any residential halls with dorms or suites that have private bathrooms and not a shared/central one?

Can we pick/request our roomate as freshman (my friend is also going so we wanted to room together) or are roomates randomly assigned?

Does Cal have a waterski club?

I would say political science is one of the top 5 for grad so I would assume the undergrad should also be good. It is a pretty popular major and, relatively speaking, it is not too difficult. I would recommend looking at sites and talking to other students to see which classes are interesting (I heard some can be an utter bore).

If are looking for drugs, you will find them. If not, its very easy to mostly avoid them without effort. There are a good amount of people that smoke weed but its college, what do you expect?

The Unit 1 and Unit 2 Mini-Suites have 2 rooms sharing a bathroom. However, I would highly recommend living in a residential hall with a shared bathroom! Not only is it a good amount cheaper, but it is a lot funner. Having to share a coed bathroom may sound disgusting, awkward, and uncomfortable at first, but you will get over it in about 30 seconds. In the mini-suites, there really is no reason to ever come out of our room since you have a bathroom. In a residential hall, people have to go out of their room to use the bathroom and this somehow translates to social floors and knowing anyone? Weird.

You can request roommates as freshmen as long as you both do it and both have the same choices. Though, you do not necessarily have a 100% of getting each other (depending on the lottery).

I am not sure if there is a waterski club affiliated with UCB judging by a search on google but there is one in the city (http://www.berkeleywaterskiclub.com/)

Yes, suites in Foothill, Clark Kerr, and the Mini-suites in the units.

Yes, both of you need to request each other when you fill out the housing application.

How difficult would it be to transfer from Bioengineering into Mechanical Engineering?

I'd originally assumed that Bioengineering would be "the" major of the future but there are so many people that are saying it has very few job prospects compared to other more "traditional" engineering majors. Maybe I was just being naive in hoping that bioengineering would eventually bloom? Should I switch out while I still have a choice?

I plan to go for an MBA once I get my masters in whatever engineering field.

Are freshmen eligible for mini-suites and suites?
