I just got into CAL and I am wondering how hard it is to change the college you were admitted to. I want to major in biology or a similar science but the college I was admitted to is more enviromental science. Can you transfer to a different college easily?

You want to go from CNR to L&S? I know a lot of people that do it actually. I think the only difficult college transfer is from CNR or L&S to COE.

I'm an English major right now (I'm a transfer student), but I am thinking about doubling in Political Economy of Industrial Societies. How hard of a major is PEIS? I'll have most of the pre-reqs done before I transfer. Is it as competitive as Biz Econ?

Hello!
Just wondering, at cal which is the best housing? Like stern, Clark Kerr...or where at?

So there is a lottery for this?

units are great :) unit 3 ftw.

Admit to college of engineering but the admission web site doesn't list my major.
So how to find what major I got in?

Haha, PEIS. It's not a particularly hard major - a lot of people take it as a backup in case they don't get into Haas.

Whatever major you applied to when you sent your app. This could be "Undeclared".

Depends on your major. If you're engineering and you like a quiet environment, Foothill is the way to go (close to classes + your neighbors will be in your classes). If you want to party all day and/or you're a humanities, units are probably preferred. Unit 1 & 3 are closest to campus, Unit 2 is good too. I wouldn't advise Clark Kerr to anyone unless you're a recruited athlete (they all live there), it's just too far from everything (Food is alright there though..).

If i live in a dorm, can i stay there during holidays (thanksgiving, winter, spring)?

Winter break, no. Thanksgiving, yes. Spring break, I think so.

yes to spring break.

Yea, the only time you can't stay in your dorms are during winter break, but for both thanksgiving and spring: yes.

is it very difficult to switch engineering majors at Cal in comparisson to UCLA? I'm currently in Nuclear Engineering because of its rise in popularity and job outlook but if that doesn't stay consistent, I might consider switching into a more classical engineering.

Could you briefly describe the pros and cons or each housing?

Also, how does the meal system work?

I have heard that Berkeley is very competitive and that the curves will kill you if you're not willing to work your butt off and even then you might not get perfect grades. I am not the most hardworking student and I feel that the transition to Cal could be too difficult for me to handle and it might be a better decision to go to UCSD. Am I too worried or syuck on rumors or is there basis in these claims? I am not trying to say I'm not gonna work and try my best to get good grades in college, like my parents think, but I feel like I might not be successful at Berkeley if this is true. Any Cal student that can give me an idea of how difficult classes are? I'm in L&S as an Undecided and am thinking of doing something in Bio or something like that. I'm really not sure, I could go an many different directions with my major and right now I have no idea. I would just like to have an idea of what a sample schedule would be for a freshman and how much work would be involved in this schedule. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know about L&S majors, but for engineering majors - yes it's a lot of work. You should know that Berkeley's programs are rigorous and so do expect to do a lot of hard work when you get there. But in exchange for your hard work, you are getting the best education there is.
But hard work or not, find time to relax ... you'll need it.

Is it possible to switch into an impacted major? I'm truthfully undecided on my major, I didn't just do that on my app, but I could see myself going into something like Engineering, Econ/Business or some type of Science because those are my strongest subjects, but I know that these are mostly impacted majors and was wondering if it is even possibole to get into an impacted major.

@88888888

lol 8 is a lucky number!
LOL i laughed when you sed ftw, I thought you said F the world, but it's for the win XD lol
Units i heard you guys party alot LOLL so it's fun there

Yes, it is!

For engineering, you have to have a strong GPA/ good scores in engineering classes to transfer. But it's possible!

Science is already in L&S, so everyone goes into L&S undeclared.

Econ is in LS, so ditto above.

For biz, you can apply until sophomore year anyways!

Don't worry, you have time to find your major! ^_^

^Thank you for that. I am a true Undecided, I didn;t just wirte that on my app to try to make it in easier. But I would like the opportuinty to go into a major that is impacted. So I just have to stick with getting a good GPA in the first 2 years and then going into an impacted major?

StarryNights: Are you saying that in order for me to switch from CivilE into another engineering major I have to finish some classes first? I can't directly switch into the major before school begins?
