Is Clark Kerr really more expensive than the units? I keep reading that but on the housing website the rooms are listed as the same price as their counterparts in the units…

I have a question regarding switching majors within the college of engineering at UCB. I was recently accepted under the joint major mechanical engineering/Material science. On Myberkeleyapp it says nothing about the joint major, only that I have been admitted to the college of engineering. I would like to switch to a Mechanical engineering major only if I do decide to attend. Is this something that would be easy to do? I plan on calling Monday but if anyone has any answers or advice I would appreciate it.

^^^^Nevermind on my question. I just called and they said that would be an easy switch. No problems at all.

do any of the students go to road games for the football team?
i posted somewhere else but my buddy wants me to go out for a road game so we can take a mini-roadtrip but if we’re like the only cal fans at the stadium, id rather go to a home game.

The Rally Committee members tend to go to road games as well as other ardent student fans. Smaller section, but more passionate perhaps.

I am currently in a community college. I completed 32 UC (University of California) transferable units so far with a 3.53 GPA. I’m in clubs, but not in leadership positions yet. If I raise my GPA in the upcoming semesters, what do you think my chance of getting into UC Berkeley Haas of Business as an undergrad would be? I got a “B” grade in Macroeconomics. Will that hurt my chances? Would my best bet as a community college student be to finish all my prerequisites for the major or have them in progress before I apply? Do you think that would increase my chances of admission?

Hey so I’m wondering if anyone can help me on this. I’m a recent cal admit for fall '12.

I originally did my fafsa when my parents hadn’t done their tax return yet so I filed it with an estimated income. Berkeley received it and awarded me 8,000 in aid. I recently updated my fafsa with the correct info (was only a few thousand off) and now berkeley, having received the updated version is awarding me zero. Does this sound right? Is there a cut off or something that I just missed? I mean, that’s a huge leap in aid.

is anyone else having trouble logging on to the L&S Academic orienteering site? I keep getting a redirect error and nothing I do helps. :(

I’m wondering, how hard is it to get from class to class? The classes seem to end at even times, rather than 10 minutes till so we have a chance to get from class to class. Do we need to plan classes with an hour in between each one? :/

what are the chances of getting a grant for an international applicant?

@newsoul: Classes end on time, but start 10 minutes past the hour so you can get there on time. i.e. 10am class starts at 10.10am, and so on. It’s called “berkeley time”.

@theravie: Very low. Depends on what major and your grades.

Quick Question: I am a physics major and would like to learn to program. As far as I can tell, CS61A seems to be the best place to start but I am unsure. If it is, can I take it while in L+S?

Yeah, you can take it while in L&S. There’s actually a CS major in L&S; it’s a BA instead of a BS from CoE.

Follow-up: I think I will be doing Engineering 7 actually, it seems like that is what I am supposed to do to learn programming, not sure why it is in Engineering instead of CS. However, it has no obvious classes after it, so what should I take next?

“This might sound like a stupid question, but I have no idea what classes to take my freshmen year. I’m planning on applying to Haas in two years. Where do I look for all the details on what classes I should take, how many credits I need to graduate, etc?”

You should also check out sites like ninjacourses.com. There, you can see descriptions, prerequisites, professor ratings, etc., and plan out your schedule! They help you generate schedules if you know which classes you want to take, and you can play around with classes and explore on the site too.

CS 61B allows E 7 as a prerequisite as well. It’s about Data Structures and you learn the programming language Java. You can just continue on the 61 series if you want. Check out the course names and just take the ones that seem helpful/interesting. Don’t forget to check out professor ratings, though! You can see these on places like ninjacourses, courserank, schedulebuilder, etc.

Thank you! I think I will do Engin7 and continue to CS61 or something along that line.

Sorry, one more question…

I was thinking about trying to double major with cognitive science, and the major prerequisite list shows “CogSci c1”. “CogSci 1” without the “c” will be offered in the Fall. Is it the same class? I know the letter “c” indicates that the course is cross-listed, but does it make a difference if it isn’t? Could I still use the course to satisfy the major requirement?

In [General Catalog - Cognitive Science Courses](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_list_crse_req?p_dept_name=Cognitive+Science&p_dept_cd=COG+SCI) , C1 no longer exists, but 1 is listed, but [General Catalog - Cognitive Science](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_view_req?p_dept_cd=COG+SCI) refers to C1. You may want to contact the department, but this may be just them forgetting to update all of the places that refer to the course when it no longer became cross listed.

That would make a lot of sense, actually. I’ll ask about it. Thanks!
