Till when one can clear the language and US history courses?? Is it mandatory to clear these courses before the program starts.

EECS, Fall 2013

The College of Engineering does not have a foreign language graduation requirement, if that is what you mean. However, admissions requires at least level 2 of high school foreign language (level 3 recommended) or equivalent demonstration of proficiency via standardized test or high enough grade level attendance in a foreign school where English is not the language of instruction.

The American history requirement can be fulfilled in many ways, including high school course work and college course work: [American History and Institutions - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/?PageID=ahi.html)

International freshman. Got a mail in cal account mandating language course requirement.

Hi, I’m a junior in high school and I’m going to be interning at a lab at Berkeley over the summer and need to find housing for about two months at/near Berkeley.

Can I rent campus housing over the summer or is that not permitted? (in other words: Do I have to be a student in order to lease on-campus dorms for the summer?)

If not, where should I go to search for inexpensive housing? My range is anywhere from $600-900/month - lower is preferable. I don’t mind subleasing an apartment, as long as it doesn’t cost too much and is somewhat close to the campus

Thanks!

What does it say about a foreign language course?

Note that for divisions that have a foreign language requirement (e.g. L&S), a student with proficiency in a foreign language (like many international students) can take a departmental placement test; sufficiently high placement fulfills the requirement.

wblee9888 - This page covers options pretty well: [Student Housing | Berkeley Summer Sessions](Student Housing | Berkeley Summer Sessions)

Looks like you need to be enrolled to stay in the dorms, but the other options could work for you.

Admitted to EECS:

 1. How does one switch to Physics major.
 2. Or can one switch to Engineering Physics major.
 3. Can one do double major in CS and Physics. (How difficult is it?)

I’m a Mech E major and am planning on taking ME C85. ME C85 is cross listed with CE30. If ME C85 is full and I take CE30, will it fulfill the ME C85 requirement?

I’m a Psych major, how hard is it to get upper division classes?

So when I apply to Berkeley, do I have to choose my major and apply to the according department/school (School of Engineering, Haas School of Business, etc.) or can I just apply to the whole University itself, and decide my major/department school later?

You need to apply for a certain college and indicate your possible major. Here “indicate” doesn’t mean “declare”. To declare a major, you will have to take the prerequisite courses of that major after you get in.

Do you have a MWF 8-9 class already? CE 30 will fulfill the requirement, as I think you’re trying to sign up for the MWF 1-2 section and MEC85 is full but CE30 isn’t. Be aware however that the schedule doesn’t always keep the two classes synced (I should know!) and you may get a rude surprise during Telebears.

I’m stuck in Bowles Hall. How bad is it?

Hi! I am currently a Cal freshman (will be a sophomore) planning to major in economics. I was supposed to take math 53 this fall because I want to take economics 101A in the spring. However, math 53 is mostly full now and I don’t think I can get in. The prereq for economics 101A says it needs math 53 or equivalent. Where can I find the classes that are the equivalent? Also, are the prereqs for classes at Cal strictly enforced for an economics major? What I mean is, can I take economics 101A without taking math 53?

If I don’t get into Cal Engineering school, will I still be considered for L+S admission?

I want to be a business major and a CS minor, will taking CS classes kill my chances of getting into Haas (low GPA)?

@collegeboy96

Unfortunately, no you will not.

Hi. I am currently waitlisted for CS61A since I signed up for the class during phase II (I never thought the class would fill up that fast). I am however number 264 on the waitlist of a class that has 805 seats. Do I have any chance of getting into the class? I heard that for lower division EECS classes, most people do get into the class from drop outs and possibly opening up a new section, but how accurate is that? I am a 2nd year L&S undeclared student thinking about possibly majoring in CS so it would be awesome if I could actually get into the class.

Thanks in advance

Have you ever traveled to Santa Cruz, and if so, what’s the easiest way by public transportation?

Do Chem students have fun? I saw a video and it didn’t seem like it, I got the impression that it was like 80% work, and 10% sleep/eat/shower, and 10% fun. lol
