How do I transfer into Cornell Engineering?

Hi! I was wondering how much school spirit people in Cornell have? I recently visited Cornell and it didn’t really feel cohesive at all and not many people were approachable.

^when did you visit? The past two weeks the students have been in prelims and it’s generally a very busy and stressful time of the semester. In my Ds experience, there is LOTS of school spirit and pride in Cornell, with a very engaged, approachable student body.

I visited around the end of September. Maybe stress is why it didn’t really feel great to me.

Can you give me some examples?

Examples of what?

Hi Katspearl,

From my experience, as biased as it may be, Cornell has a lot of school spirit! I suppose the term’s pretty loosely defined, but we have traditions that attract majority of the student body such as Dragon Day, Homecoming, Slope Day, etc. We also have quite the student population, and people aren’t exaggerating about the diversity we have. The opportunity to meet all different kinds of people are endless, and I’ve found majority of my peers to be friendly, intelligent, and approachable. Generally speaking, many students will probably be absorbed in their works during the weekdays, which may partially explain they are seemingly being “unapproachable”, moreso because they’re trying to prepare for upcoming assignments and not so much because they want to reject other people.

I do agree with TiggyB62. It is currently prelim season (a term we use referring to midterms), and can be one of the most peak stress times of the year. It is unfortunate you came at a pretty bad time, but I do hope you know that one day’s worth of observing can be very skewed and doesn’t always tell the full story. As a matter of fact, it’s probably just not at Cornell but at many other universities at this time, where the atmosphere may be a bit down due to the students anticipating upcoming exams.
