I know college application season is starting, and if anyone is curious about life at Loyola (social life, academics, ect) feel free to comment any questions you have! Although I’m transferring next semester I will be as honest and unbiased as possible.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread. It is NOT the place for “chance me” posts, however.
I’m transferring to Marist! I was admitted for the Spring Semester. I’m transferring for a few reasons. Marist is closer to home (I’m from Connecticut) and their communications program is stronger compared to Loyola’s. The atmosphere at Loyola isn’t what I thought it was going to be, and I’m pretty disappointed by it. Making friends at Loyola is hard for me, especially because I’m not from a private high school and came here knowing nobody. Cliques form easily here and in order to have a decent social life, a fake id is needed to get into bars and clubs. The majority of Loyola kids go out Thursday-Saturday. While there are events held on campus, not a lot of people attend. I’m often alone in my dorm bored, wishing I could be at home. I’m not trying to bash Loyola at all because my professors are amazing and the campus is gorgeous, but I feel like I could get a better and cheaper education elsewhere. Sorry this was so long haha.
My D is a senior at Loyola and I have to say I am blown away at the quality of the education she has received there. The academics are much more rigorous than I expected. And I graduated from a top tier LAC. Marist is a fine school, and I know several recent Marist graduates, but I see the quality of education definitely stronger at Loyola. I agree you may have an easier time socially at Marist. Loyola is a city school so most of the socializing does occur off campus. There are other things to see and do besides clubs and bars however. You just need to find like minded students. They are there; my D has a wonderful group of friends and is very involved with school activities. I hope you are happier at Marist. The graduates I know all liked it there. Best of luck!
My son is junior in high school now. We are visiting LUM next month. My husband and I are both alums. Sounds like things haven’t changed all that much over the years. LOL!
Like @crazymamaB wrote, Loyola is in the city and cabs are readily available. I went out off-campus quite a bit. But I was also involved on-campus too. I was a communications major and spent a lot time working on the newspaper as a writer and layout director. I’ve been employed in the field for the entirety of my ongoing career. My husband and I were also involved in the Spring Break Outreach program. My Loyola roommates are my besties to this day.
All that said, schools sometimes aren’t the right fit. Marist is a great school. If my son didn’t have a two-hour-radius-from-home stipulation, I’d encourage him to consider it. Wishing you all the best @lovelovelove4
Literally dont go to Loyola is such a bar school and theres NOTHING to do if you dont have a fake id
i also am so bored the campus literally dies friday afternoon like its the most boring place ever
I am also transferring next semester because I dont think it’s worth the price tag
@crazymamaB does your child like Loyola? May I ask what they’re majoring in? Are there things to do on campus? Or is it just drinking at bars? Does your child find the campus cliquey? Thank you.
Hey guys,
Now imma be real honest and expect you guys to be the same. I have 3As and 3Bs in o levels a sat score of 1340(new SAT). I’ve done an internship at a law firm(only cuz on the lums site it said students are “expected” to do so) and i have 3As in AS. I’m applying to lums in fall of 2018(first and only preference is SAHSOL), what are my chances of getting in??
I can’t PM since I’m too new, but would love to know the answers you provided last year to @msk7777
