I’ve heard of honors appeals working so yes, that could work, even if parents, though if your daughter doesn’t want to that’s a different story. You can also apply after your first year as well. Again, honors does not make a night/day difference as it does at some schools.
She is not comfortable emailing. I posted this question in couple of CC threads, since didn’t know if any were current. I Thanks for the input @PengsPhils
@cc4help my suggestion is it should be your D who emails regarding any honors appeals, etc. If it’s not that important to her, then let it be. As mentioned earlier, she can join later based on GPA.
@cc4help I was surprised that my son did not Honors college with his stats (4.6 W GPA, 35 ACT). He does not seem to care. I emailed admissions, not to appeal, but to ask what the criteria is for being invited to the Honors College and this is the response I got:
I know that they did not post the dates for orientation yet but when does Northeastern typically have orientation? Are there multiple dates for the same college?
At least in my year they were college specific but had at least 3 options for each college. Each session was open to 3 or so colleges. The dates were spread through the summer though as mentioned.
Honors usually moves in the Thursday or Friday before Labor Day, and other frosh over the weekend, but 9/1 is that Saturday of Labor Day so that will likely affect things… (9/1is major move day in Boston for all leases in the city.)
Hi! I was accepted into Northeastern and am really considering it but I was just wondering how things are socially. I’ve read a lot of reviews on niche and things like that that say there’s no party life and that most people go to Harvard and MIT for parties. Is that you’re experience? Do you and your friends go to other schools to party or do you hang out more on campus?
With Boston all around there’s a lot more to do than party, and when we do party we usually do small-medium size get-togethers at apartments (5-20 people usually). There are a few larger parties on mission hill if you’re looking for that though. I don’t know anyone trekking all the way to MIT/Harvard to party regularly, that’d be crazy. Most of the social events at Northeastern usually revolve around Boston, which there is plenty of. There’s stuff on campus as well, but usually even events organized by RA’s will be “Go do this thing in the city”. Usually, that’s preferred by most people here as we’re all very much city people
Awesome! I also was wondering if most people stay in Boston after graduating or do they move other places? I personally would want to work in the Bay Area in California, do a lot of people move over there after?
Yeah, people move all over, but usually stay in big cities. I think I am likely to end up in NYC or SF, though that’s over a year off still. Good friends of mine are ending up in both as well as staying in Boston. I think those are the big three, but other cities like Seattle and Chicago are also common. I’m personally planning to move around to a few different cities before ever staying in one long term.
My daughter (graduated in 2016 in 4 years - most of her circle of friends graduated in 2017) stayed in Boston as did about 90% of her friends (variety of majors - although many Computer Science). Most who didn’t stay, went back home (where they grew up). I think they all just love Boston (I know she does) and so they concentrated their job searches in the Boston area.
