Does anyone know what the move in date is for Northeastern for Fall 2018? Thank you
"Specific dates and times for Fall Move-In will be sent to students over the summer. "
It’s always over Labor Day weekend. Specific move-in dates for buildings won’t be known for a while
For any CS majors reading here, what DOCs or study abroad opportunities are available that are in line with this major? (I found the AIT in Budapest.) Thanks!
I just got my Financial aid today and my EFC is 3 times higher then the FAFSA. I was set on going to northeastern but this award makes it difficult to make such decision. My EFC is 1/5th of my family income and does’t help that i have a brother in college and a sister looking at medical school. Is there anyway i can change my situation, perhaps get more aid. The net price calculator was wrong with my estimates! Please help!!!
@plexus Northeastern is a CSS Profile school so the FAFSA EFC is meaningless. What did Northeastern’s NPC say the cost would be? If your parents are divorced, own a business or a second home or have substantial investments the NPC’s tend to be inaccurate.
@TomSrOfBoston non of those factors apply to my family, according to the NPC the net price was little over 10k. with family contribution of around 3k.
If that’s the case, you should absolutely appeal and see what’s up, though there are of course no guarantees. Sadly, aid at many schools is hit/miss, which I know sucks. But if Northeastern isn’t affordable, don’t force yourself into any sort of significant debt.
In the appeal, lay out that you were ready to commit, etc. That should help, as well as the information on siblings in college. Good luck with the appeal!
Trying to choose between northeastern bioengineering and tulane biomedical engineering. Can anyone lay out the advantages to northeastern engineering? Anything that makes it stand out? All I know rn is whatever is on the website.
I know that move-in is over the Labor Day weekend with honors moving in first. If booking a hotel, when should parents be there and for how long. Do parents attend the convocation? Is there a Parents program?
The co-op program is one of the top ones in the US. Experience is a big help when it comes to engineering, and if you do 3 co-op’s at Northeastern, you graduate with 18 months work experience. Boston is also a huge medical hub so it will likely lend itself to more access to opportunities in the medical field. I’m sure some of that is on the website, but those are two big points.
Beyond just that, they are two very different environments, so don’t just solely focus on your academic major in hte process of course.
Move-in isn’t over the weekend always, it’s around there, sometimes before/after, so I would wait until official dates are announced to book.
Personal preference. Most people won’t have parents up at all. There’s an orientation over the summer that parents are usually more common at, and they have their separate programming there. I had to google what convocation was to remember, to give you an idea of the importance of that. I don’t even know if there were any parents there at all thinking back.
If parents are there to help just get set up, a few days should do.
i applied RD and haven’t heard back yet, but does anyone know if submitting a letter of intent to my admissions rep basically stating they’re my first choice college would look bad/desperate? I’m not sure how it would come off and i’m not doing anything unless i get responses, but the wait is killing me, lol. i couldn’t apply EA/ED due to test scores and financial need.
The remaining RD decisions will come out around March 15th. A note of continued interest would be okay but don’t lay it on too heavily.
@TomSrOfBoston thanks! my SAT was a bit low but i figure it can’t hurt i guess.
Do the LLC’s stay in the same dorms on a year to year basis or are they relocated?
Year to year for most, and a few are constant. The only for sure constant one is the music LLC in Kerr due to the soundproof practice area.
What’s the difference between nu path and core requirements? Core is irrelevant for us right?
Correct! Core is the old general requirements, Path is the new. All new students are on Path.
Does anybody have any stories of negotiating financial aid at Northeastern? Northeastern is my top choice right now, but I can’t afford it. I have received 2 full tuition scholarships from other schools and I will have to go to one of them if Northeastern doesn’t come down any on price :(.
How accurate is the Net Price Calculator for Northeastern ?
