Ask Questions about Northeastern Here!

They will not rescind. If it were me paying, I’d rescind my offer to pay if my kid didn’t want to take the tests. Its thousands of dollars (potentially - she needs to get a 4 or 5).

I’m curious which NUin locations are the largest in size. Can I find that information somewhere?

@wheatonmom I can’t seem to find that anywhere - the best bet is probably to look for posts on people’s experiences and note the number of people + location, both usually mentioned. Search for NU.in on the northeastern forum and dig a bit and you’ll probably get a few. You could probably call and ask admissions on that one as well.

@wheatonmom Greece is by far the largest NUin location simply because that’s the only location that doesn’t fill up. Australia and Ireland also have a lot of students, because there are 2 different programs for each of those locations depending on your major. Last year, the rest of the countries (Italy, London, etc.) were around 100, apart from China (which had around 35 from what I’ve heard)

Got accepted into the ContiNUe program. Does anyone know anyone that has done it or just know more about it? I’m a bit confused on how it will affect my major path and I guess why I was accepted into it. I emailed my admissions consoler but thought I might ask here too.

Does NU accept AP Computer Science Principles for college credit? It does not appear on the AP credit chart.

I don’t believe so - see your thread for more details.

When are decisions for Hawaii released?

@SienaRose Honestly not sure, but possibly with California so you have some time to wait likely.

@cc4help Colleges won’t know whether she takes the exams. She can submit scores to the college she enrolls in if she wants credit, but they won’t be asking her for her scores after they make an admissions decision.

Admissions people examine her transcript. The AP designation should signal a certain level of rigor. This is what admissions is interested in. They can use whatever scores she already has to help assess the quality of her AP courses, but once she is admitted that process is over.

If her teacher gives her an incomplete or very bad grade in a course as a consequence of not taking the exam, that could possibly be a problem.
My daughter took three AP exams. She ended up submitting one of the scores when she was a sophomore in college because she realized it would help her fulfill some requirements faster.
I agree with other posters that having the scores can be valuable.

also confused about ContiNUe. I was accepted as well, and the wording on the website is confusing. Will we have to take classes in the Summer 1 2019 term?

/insert stupid question about the waitlist bc i lack reading comprehension lol/

@EmZoWe No, you don’t have to go if you get accepted off the waitlist for Northeastern – you just have to accept in order to officially join the waitlist. In general, yes, you can be on multiple waitlists. It depends for other schools, some have binding waitlists, you just have to check to make sure.

@alexa2143 After I read your response I realized I completely read the quote wrong lol. My bad! And thank you!

This is the first time I’ve heard of the program (possibly new?), but from glancing at it it seems like a version of guaranteed transfer except that you start in CPS at Northeastern your first year. It looks like a way to offer legacies admission if they are qualified but didn’t make the cut for the limited freshman spots as well. CPS isn’t known to be that high quality compared to undergraduate and is more of a continuing education program as far as I’m aware. I don’t think I’d recommend it unless you really loved Northeastern and didn’t have other comparable options.

As far as the summer term thing goes, I think you formally transfer over then but I’m not sure if you could just wait until Fall. Summer classes are pretty common at Northeastern though for undergrads with co-op and all and is a normal part of campus life here.

I’m not sure how it would affect major path, so your adcom is probably the best bet.

I have seen admits requiring freshman year in CPS in the past, I think this year they just put this fancy new name (ContiNU) to make it sound better.

My D and I are heading to Northeastern this weekend. Sunday is the Honors admitted student day for her college but Saturday will be open. We are only there for the weekend. What do you recommend is a must visit on campus? She will be a biology major interested in medicine. We aren’t looking to do touristy stuff outside of Northeastern but just want to walk around campus and get a feel for the neighborhood. How is the weather there right now? Should we bring winter boots for walking around campus?

Bring boots - Boston is notoriously bad at cleaning the curbs.

@SeattleMom1

Campus is very compact - you should be able to see it all on Sunday easily. You can walk from any point on campus to another in 10 minutes or less, always, so seeing even most buildings on campus would take maybe an hour max. Going to campus on Saturday in addition to welcome day would be a bit of a waste in my opinion. So, despite the request, I’d recommend exploring neighborhoods around Northeastern to get a feel for the area as well as looking at campus. Fenway is a big food neighborhood in the area and Newbury St / Boylston has a range of shopping and food, which is of course next to the prudential center. Copley Square is also a nice area along Newbury / Boylston. The best route would probably be to start on campus, walk over to Fenway, take the T from Kenmore to Copley (only 2 stops), then walk up Newbury and eventually into the prudential center and back to campus (via Huntington on the other side of the pru). That’d be a nice loop where you’d see cool areas, good food options, and can get a feel for campus before/after the loop. On campus ISEC is the newest building that’s probably worth seeing which you may not see on Sunday, though likely will. West Villiage is the main on-campus housing area, and you can check out East Villiage (honors housing) easily while there too. You can walk into Marino to see the gym as well.

It looks like there will almost certainly be snow on the ground, so do bring boots and a warm jacket

Hope that helps!

On campus visit ISEC and hang around the indoor quad in Curry. A visit across the street to the Museum of Fine Arts would be good too.
