@jazzcatastrophe‌ Stern kids can still take these “Easy A type” classes/electives to boost their GPAs right?

@BigScaryMonster really depends on how good you are at science. Gen chem is easy, bio is a lot of work but not super challenging, orgo is tough, and physics is either tough or easy depending on your natural inclination for mathematical thinking

@nyubobcat yes but there is a limit to how many classes you can take outside of your home school

@jazzcatastrophe‌ do you have any friends going for a Journalism major or who write for a student publication?

I have a close friend who writes for WSN, she’s a journalism/MCC major. Im pretty sure NYU makes you double major as a journalism major. Is there any particular question you have?

@saharatasticc‌ Yeah, the required double major is one of the things that drew me to the program! I’m wondering how that plays out in real life - how is the workload, esp. with writing for WSN/ internships as well?

Hi I’m now applying nyu on regular decision (or probably Ed2). Im really interested in Gallatin and I’ve got some admission questions first. I’m from mainland China, and one of my friends has been admitted to Gallatin this year on ed1, said to be the first applicant admitted to Gallatin from mainland China. So it absolutely got me nervous. I was wondering maybe it’s extremely hard for Chinese applicants to get in Gallatin. I really like the idea of a liberal art college inside of a big university with various access to the resources, and the interdisciplinary study in Gallatin. I want to take philosophy in CAS and film in Tisch. However I’m confused about my chances of getting in as a Chinese applicant, so I figured you might know something about it :)

@Gaoajveksushsba‌ id say your chances of getting in are probably higher as a applicant, nyu loves international students so it doesn’t really matter that somebody you know got in. It doesn’t hurt your chances or anything. If it makes you feel better I’m from turkey and the valedictorian from my school got in for ED1 and i got in later for RD. you’ll do fine!!!

thanks!

Hi I just wanted to know if the degree you receive at Gallatin is a
BA for individualized studies or a BA for (your Concentration Name)

I have a sat score of 1810(680m,520cr,610w) do i have a chance. Will athletes get more prefernce for admission
Im top 50 in tennis in India and ranked 1000 internationally.I could get into div 1 colleges through tennis but I’m really interested in NYU.If I have a chance I would definetly apply for ED 2 if not I would not waste my time applying.Do I have a shot and I don’t need any aid

@ind1900‌ Sports only help in big ways if you get recruited. Unfortunately, not many schools care a lot about tennis in the US and NYU doesn’t really care about any sports at all. I don’t think you can get in with a 1810, especially not one of their better colleges like Stern.

Does NYU offer housing to all students? I know a lot if schools guarantee hoiusing for the first 2 years and than you go off campus. I would imagine it could be extremely expensive having to find your own housing. Please explain how it works.

NYU guarantees housing for all 4 years. You must remain in housing in order to get this guarantee. The only exception is if you do study abroad. Many students do leave NYU housing and move further east, uptown and to Brooklyn, but my oldest D remained in housing for all 4 years along with a bunch of her friends and my youngest D plans to as well. To me the advantage is that they have the security and convenience of being within walking distance to NYU or taking advantage of NYU bus routes, rather than living further from campus. We are NYers and D’s will remain in NYC, so they have plenty of time to live in other parts of the city post graduation. Older D lived in Weinstein as a freshman and then remained in Broome Street (in a massive apartment) for the next 3 years. No way could she afford to live in Nolita on her own. Younger D was in 3rd North as a freshman and has been in Palladium for sophomore and junior year. She loves that area close to Union Square and the East Village. She’s hoping to move to senior housing on 13th Street next year.

What’s it like internally transferring from a different major to Stern. I know it’s difficult but what’s the process like? Someone at my school wants to apply to their regular school and transfer in but I think that’s pretty unreasonable.

What’s it like transferring from NYU to other campuses? Let’s say I go to NYU Stern but decide I’d like to transfer to NYUAD or NYUSH? I know I can spend apply for a year abroad but is it possible to transfer fully to those programs? Is it possible to transfer back the other way around?

Is there a really strict 3 year language requirement for applying? I went up to Spanish 3 in as a sophmore in highschool, so technichally I did 2 years of language in highschool and 1 in middle school. Hopefully this isn’t an issue but I’m just a bit worried right now.

Is there a sense of school pride? Ya know, with the whole D3 athletics and all…

^ Like, is there a sense of community and unity? It’s different from other schools bc it’s in the city.

If you finished Spanish 3 then that should fulfill the requirement. Also, literally no one cares about sports and the whole “school pride” thing doesn’t really exist. NYU is more of a collection of many microcommunities
