Thank you for replying!!! But I am just having a really hard time deciding whether I want to repeat or not. I am okay for the additional tuition, but I feel a little uncomfortable when talking about the situation with my parents. My parents would most likely be up for applying for an upper, but then it would be hard to gain leadership positions. Please help me decide on what to do!
Hi! I’ll be a new lower next year and I was wondering if anyone knew how many other new lowers there are going to be?

I already got my interim advisor and my department questionnaires. I have heard that your dorm and advisor assignments come in June.
@HarryLeggs ok thank you! Also did the questionnaires come by mail or email?
I believe there is a link to them on the Exeter Connect website.
181 Preps (91M, 90F)
62 Lowers (33M, 29F)
37 Uppers (18M, 19F)
42 Seniors (26M, 16F includes PGS 26M 6F)
@skieurope I think your stats are from the current (2014-2015) year, but they are probably similar for this cycle.
I know there were only 15 new Uppers admitted.
@TheStig2 Oops. You are indeed correct.
Our interim advisor referred to questionnaires - when do we get these and what are these for? Dorm assignments? Roommate pairing?
Separate question - When is the placement test for Math?
Anyone know if there’s been any movement in the waitlist for Exeter? (Applying for 10th grade)
Waitlist may have movement in two cycles, the first around the upcoming response day, and the last wait list cycle is in the summer when payments are due and some families decide against, opening a few spots at the end of July, early August.
Is there a way that they match you up with the right dorm for you? It seems like many dorms have pretty good chemistry and I wondered how that happens.
What books are read in English 110/120/130? Fiction, Non-Fiction?
^ Also, what about for English 210/220/230?
Looking at my kid’s bookshelf, I see a mix of plays (especially Shakespeare), short story collections, books of poetry, and novels. I don’t see any nonfiction. The short story and poetry books are all modern and single author, rather than anthologies. A scan of the Exeter bookstore suggested to me that the teachers have a fair bit of latitude in what books they chose, though it seemed like all the genres above were represented at least once each term. The writing curriculum is more uniform, particularly the focus on narrative writing prep year.
Dorm chemistry grows over time, and I think the mixed grades in the dorms helps as much as anything as there is both continuity and novelty each year–my advice is to let the school place you.
What can you tell me about “fives”
Probably not what you are looking for but, calling fives is to reserve a seat you have sat in for five minutes. At least that is my knowledge of the word’s usage.
Reserving a seat for five minutes! Talk about privilege…
