Ask questions about Purdue here.

I don’t know if I can say that the education is worth $XX/ year.

I can say that the education I’ve experienced is top notch. There are a ton of opportunities on campus (clubs, projects, organizations, research, etc.). Purdue has strong industry ties, and it shows. We suck at sports for the most part, but if you like exercising our Co-Rec is great. Housing is ok, food is ok.

However, many companies in Aero don’t hire international students, and some companies in the US don’t take international students as interns/ entry level employees. This is the same everywhere. So being an international student, your opportunities compared to mine (American Citizen) is smaller.

You’re from India. What do you hear about Purdue in India?

People in China love Purdue. People in the Midwest love Purdue. It is a top 10 engineering college with a ton of alumni in many companies. It’s a good school.

Whether or not it’s worth $45k a year is a decision for you and your parents/ funders.

@Seirsly‌ Oh okay. I am from India but I reside in Dubai ( U.A.E), lot of people know about Purdue here in Dubai but in India however, I don’t think thats the case ( I’m not so sure) . And about the jobs, What do you think…Should I do my Undergrad in India and PG in US or Undergrad in USA?
I am really concerned about the job opportunities a college can offer so…

If you’re doing mech eng, you really don’t need grad school. Even for aero.

Where do you want to work? In the USA? Then do school in the US.

@Seirsly‌ Yeah I would like to work in US but since you told Job opportunities are quite less for Intl. students I am stll thinking about. What if I did my Undergrad at Purdue for aeronautical or mechanical,
Do you think India recognizes Purdue as a good college?
How are the job opportunities around the world for Purdue grads.

They’re harder to get as an Intl student due to visa issues and security clearances. Not impossible. But, unlike US citizens you probably won’t be able to look for work at small companies or for some national security projects.

From the Indians I’ve talked to here, Purdue ranks very well in India.
There’s not that much Aero work in India though that I’ve heard about.

For “Around the World” it’s more complicated since a lot of countries have various visa/ work requirements that would prevent them/ restrict them from hiring American graduates. Also, it’s harder to get an entry level job in, say, Germany, if you don’t know German. Most “international” jobs that hire Purdue grads are international companies that have engineers travel between many locations.

Alright thanks

How does the Alek test work and how’s does it help u choose a math class at Purdue

This should answer everything.

I just sent in my transfer app for summer 2015. I applied to the College of Liberal Arts. I understand that Purdue, overall, is fairly selective, but how does hard is it to transfer to the CLA? My college career got off to a bad start, but I’ve cleaned it up in recent semesters after taking a few years off. Also, my ACT score was 30 and my high school GPA was decent from a good prep school.

Does anyone know, has Purdue sent out notification of the Trustees and Presidential Scholarships for 2015-2016 yet? Also, have invitations to the honors college been sent out. Thanks!

How are the food and dorms at purdue (engineering major if that changes anything) ?

Browse here to see menus at dining courts: http://www.housing.purdue.edu/menus
Food is pretty good.

Browse here for dorm information: http://www.housing.purdue.edu/Housing/Residences/
If you click on the individual dorm name, most of the should have a virtual tour link. Dorms are ok.

Seirsly… Do the dining courts have a buffet system? Where all of what is written in the menu, is served? Or is it that you have to purchase what you like? Is there anything like a meal plan… Where your pay at the start of sem for the whole sem?
Also… What hall do you think should I choose? (one that is reasonably priced, close to the engineering faculty, and the dorms are good)
Thanks

Dining courts are all buffet system. There are “stations” to get your food, then you sit down at a table. You can always go back for more food. Then you take your dishes to the dish racks before leaving.

The dorms closest to the engineering buildings aren’t the best imo.

My favorites are Earhart, Harrison, and Shreve. All of them have a lot of engineering students, near dining courts, near the gym, and near bus stops that go straight to the engineering buildings. The walk isn’t that bad to the engineering buildings either. I mainly walk to classes.

@CSmajorQ Daughter has been waiting for weeks, nothing yet. Looking at last year’s thread, there seemed to be a date when it appeared on applicant web portals, It was around 25th/26th of February. I believe the Trustees have been given out.

@NorthernMom61 Do you know for sure if anyone recieved Trustees? If so, do you know thier stats?

Thanks @NorthernMom61!

@fjgh45 All of the Trustees scholarships have been disbursed.

Can we take AP exams after accepting offer for credits?

@Seirsly … One doubt
What kind of questions are asked in the Aleks test? Do I need to prep for it beforehand? Are the questions asked based on High school math? As an international, will I have any disadvantage in it? Thanks
