@aa9876 I cant find the exact stats, but I’d say probably 50% - 60% are from the NE, and a lot from NYC. SU has students from all 50 states and many different countries. It is pretty diverse.
I’m a freshmen in community college. I’m almost done with my first year and I calculated my GPA. It’s a 2.2 I know, it’s bad. But, I’m willingly to try to bring it up because I declared a major when I was supposed to take only my General education classes and that messed me up. However, I found out what I really wanted to do and I want to do a double major in Fashion Design and also, The Bandier Program with a minor in animation if that’s possible because I love creating new designs, music, and animation. I wanted to know what must I do to get in? I know have to have portfolios for both animation and Fashion Design. I wanted to know about the Bandier Program since, they only let in 25 applicants in that program. Do I have to have something that’s really impressive since, I’ll be a transfer?
What must I do to get into Syracuse since my freshmen year GPA is bad?
I know this is late. Sorry. Thanks.
I don’t think Bandier accepts transfers b/c it’s a very structured program from 1st semester, and I don’t think you would be able to get in with that GPA regardless - they take 25/yr out of 500-600 applicants. Furthermore, with that GPA you will need something VERY impressive on the artistic side to get into any program, that is really not a strong GPA. I would stay another year in CC and try to transfer next year, while getting up your GPA. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you already know this.
Yeah, I did already know this. I just wanted to see if I was able to bring my GPA up could I get in…
@ShiningOrange I never got the chance to say this but thanks so much for the information! It was very helpful
Also, would any of you have any insights on the aerospace engineering program? Like how good are the connections/internships? And one more question: If I do decide to change my major to aerospace engineering and leave Newhouse but realize it’s not for me after all, would I still have a chance of transferring back over to Newhouse again ( and I’m not saying like in between semesters or anything too drastic like that)
@Ella95 I believe that the GPA is a huge factor for transfer students. I am told that transfer students usually need at least a 3.5 GPA no matter which school they want to transfer. I don’t know much about the bandier program, so I can’t provide any information on it. You could call the admissions regarding that question.
@1ondonbridge
I think the engineering program is alright. Haha I don’t really know much about it. However, I can answer your internal transfer question. In order to transfer back to Newhouse, you would need to have earned at least 30 graded (not pass/fail) credits at SU (no AP/IB credits). They also consider your GPA at SU, and transfers are admitted from highest to lowest GPA until all seats are filled. Here’s the link I found this info on: http://coursecatalog.syr.edu/2011/rules/1803_intra-university_transfer
I am glad to be of help
Hi, coming back to strong majors at syracuse, I feel their architecture program is also quite popular but I don’t see people mentioning it? Secondly how about Honors program? Could you please explain what it is it in laymans term, also they say it is only by invitation, is it so ? And if invited one should be happy about it? Cause I am coming here for architecture which as it is quite intensive course and with honors is it going to be lot tougher?
Thanx
Is there a way to accept financial aid? I’ve checked my to-do list on MySlice but I don’t see any way of selecting my financial aid package and accepting the offer. If I do have to accept my aid package, how do I do this and when is the deadline?
@sandy42900 see my post on another thread re: honors via this link:

Hi @cassiek21, I don’t think you need to accept financial aid, but you wish to change the amount of loan you are borrow, then you can.
My D will be attending SU in the fall. The move in period looks like it is three days on the calendar. Can you explain the process? Are you assigned one day that everyone moves in or do people trickle in over a couple of days? Are there organized events for freshmen upon arrival on campus?
MomfromPA - your D got an email the other day that directs her to SU’s ReadySetGo website - most of what you need to know is on there.
The room assignment link was supposed to be on the MySlice MyHousing tab on May 8th but mine still isn’t there… anyone else having this problem? What should I do
Hi @MomfromPA15317,
readyset.syr.edu is your new best friend. It has all the information you need to know. I will briefly explain the process for you. First, you need to get a move-in pass. On July 16th, the move-In pass will open in myslice. You will need to select a date and time for when you want to move in. Once you have picked a date and time, that is the only time you can move in, but parents may stay for a couple of days to help settling in, unpacking, shopping etc.During your move-in, a team of students, aka the Goon Squad will help and guide you and your student. There are events planned for new students for each college. They are all listed in the orientation book that SU mailed to you. I believe you may obtain one in Schine student center if you lost/did not receive yours.
@asignore97 You should call housing and figure out what’s wrong ASAP.
@asignore97 My S doesn’t have it on his either - maybe it wasn’t ready for primetime on Friday. I’d check tomorrow and if it’s not there yet, call.
Have they already mailed the orientation books? We haven’t received one yet but I thought they came later.
@oliver17 According to ReadySet, they will be mailed out in July but available in pdf online at the end of June.
Thank you @gobluemom85
