Hey recently admitted transfer student and wanted to know some general thoughts on Revelle and what aspects of the college system affects transfer students since most of us will end up at the village for housing?
@BlueDog457ā¦ Iām in Revelle as a transfer! Basically your IGETC (if you have it) knocks out a majority of your GEs (including a horrible writing sequence). However, if you didnāt fulfill extra classes in science or are non-STEM: you have to take a chem class, 3 math classes (the 10 sequence if youāre non-STEM), and a physical science class. The classes required are contingent on what your major is.
@thinkweism Probably should have put that I am an Econ major! Pretty sure the calculus I took at CC will cover the math classes then? In terms of the Natural Science requirements it says a physics class also is that correct? Did you find the science classes at UCSD particularly difficult? I was looking at the College of Oceanography and a few of the classes like lower SIO seem interesting, but hopefully they arenāt too challenging because Iāve only taken once Science class since HS lol.
Hi!! Just got admitted as Physics majorā¦trying to change it to CSā¦
I called today and asked if i can do that, and they said sure but itās gonna be a lottery system w 40% chance of getting in pretty much depending on the year applied.
Do they make it hard to get a minor in cs?
@BlueDog457 Pretty sure you should be good with the math portion. Not too sure how it works for STEM in Revelle; and how far theyāll require you to go with the math. I know that the 20 sequence is the only path which fulfills some of the upper division requirements in econ. You can take physics for your natural science requirement! I havenāt fulfilled mine yet since Iām hammering out the last of my calc sequence, but I think if you want something less intenseā¦ Iād stick with the SIO classes. Last I heard, the SIO classes are going to be much easier to handle since the physics requires a lab. And some of the classes that they offer are really interesting.
I took the required chemistry class (CHEM 11 doesnāt require a lab so thatās why I picked it lmao) and Iām terrible with science too. I thought it wasā¦ okay. I probably could have done better if I studied more but I honestly left it on the back burner most of the time and only studied to get the basics down. If you havenāt fulfilled that requirement, I would def suggest just taking it as pass/no pass. I got a C+ which completely destroyed my GPA my first quarter. :(( My friendās girlfriend is taking physics for a GE right now and itās completely destroying her. But if you like math, labs, and can handle the fast pace (10 weeks fly byā¦ we just finished week 4 and Iām dying), I donāt see why you canāt do physics! But definitely check to make sure if you can take it as P/NP - I know for Revelle that you canāt do the math as P/NP for sure.
@jhfkjhfkjhfjkhf You can minor in basically anything you want, the only problem is that CS is incredibly impacted (hence the lottery system for selecting the CS major) so minors will never get priority for registration. And CS classes are hard enough as it is to get into. Like CS 100 has 380-400 seats and thereās always a wait list of 40-70+ students.
Hi! Is UCSD generally more liberal or conservative, or in between?
@floppedover like any college campus, the students are almost all very progressive. however, the protests are less high-profile than they are at other schools eg Berkeley, and thereās been an uptick in white supremacist propaganda on campus this year
Hello, I got into Warren College and the GE requires 6 4-unit classes in a POC. I have taken CC classes that can apply in POC, however the majority of them are only 3 units. According to assist.org they are equivalent to 4-unit classes so when I transfer credits over, do they count as a 4-unit class? I am unsure of who to contact at UCSD concerning transferring credits(community college in general), so contact information would suffice as well. Thank you!
@ucsdcompsci thank you for that info. Most people I asked said the same!
@Rualrite Yes they should count as 4-unit. If youāve accepted your SIR and enrolled, you should contact the virtual advising center at vac.ucsd.edu
Hey, I am an incoming freshman and I got into Warren College majoring in structural engineering. I am planning to take summer courses at city college but I am not sure what the GE courses are. Help plz
Hi there, I was wondering what the best way to make friends as a transfer is? also, how can I explore dorm and housing options? Thanks!!
UCSD is definitely a dream school for me (Iāll be graduating high school in June 2019) however, I believe my stats are a bit low. I have a 3.88 weighted and capped UC GPA but with all honors and IB courses. My ECs are in line with what I plan to do in college. I have accumulated more than 100 hours in community service, including volunteering at my local hospital and serving meals to the homeless people in my region. I am currently writing a research paper on Parkinsonās disease, something I have interest and personal connection in. My SAT score is low, a 1350, but Iāll be retaking in August for an estimated 1500. I plan to take the premed route, so I will probably major in Biological Sciences as an undergrad. I know this is an impacted major at UCSD. Do I still have a pretty good chance of getting in?
how hard is it to get a single dorm at marshall? Also what exactly is the difference between Computer engineering CS25 and computer engineering EC26?
thank you!
Hi Iām want to transfer to UCSD, and I talked to their booth for transfer day at my cc, and she said that UCSD mostly base your admission on your academics, in contrast to your extracurriculars and personal statements. Just wondering if this is accurate.
