ASK QUESTIONS HERE: Part III

Minky,

Recruited athletes are "wined and dined" by coaches, and assuming the athlete has a pulse, the coach may promise admission. Coaches are then responsible for sending lists of names to Admissions of those applicants they want for their teams. This whole process is kept on the down-low; only recruited athletes are aware of it.

Yes, I've been leading campus tours since I stepped on campus. Do you know if your son, as a new tour guide, was required to go on a mock tour to learn the tricks of the trade? I was the one leading those mock tours just a few weeks back.

Hi Mohak
Which is the best hostel to stay in ?? I plan to apply early this way I can get a better accomodation.Wat are your majors. I plan to do engg.

Justin,

I want to have a single room. But I am just a sophomore. Is it possible? What are the interest floors that offer the single rooms? When is the dead-line for their application?

I heard that they are making a new interest floor in Farber. Do you know anything about that?
And another thing I heard the French Floor in the Keefe was going to be scrapped. What do I have to do to make a new interest floor in place of that? When is the dead-line ?

Thanks for the info!

Molly123,
The best dorm to stay would be Keefe but its a wellness and only 16 freshman live in it.
Kamine is pretty sweet too but its little bit farther than the rest. These are the two best dorms in terms of comfort. You will have ac which is a must have for easton summers if u live in those dorms.

btw kun school bata ho? ed ma pako ho? mero ni major Engineering nai ho.

mohak,

Yes, there are sophomores currently living in singles.

All living groups in Keefe, Ramer, and Farber have singles on their floors. Information on applying to these floors will be forthcoming. You might also wish to email Julie Mule in Res Life (mulej@lafayette.edu) for more information on deadlines.

Yes, I've heard through the grapevine that a new Wellness floor to the tune of "Mind, Body, Spirit" or something along those lines will be in Farber next year. I haven't heard anything, though, about the fate of the French floor. Again, contact Julie if you're interested in establishing a new interest floor. It may already be too late for the founding of a new group, but there's always the following year!

Ok that is good. But the office of residence life has been sending me emails asking to fill out the forms regarding the room I will be living next year. I know there is a site about the special interest house but its not complete and doesn't say if I will get to live in the group for sure if I want to. Since the deadline is March 12 , I need the info asap. thanks!

mohak,

You must submit that online survey you received via email from Julie Mule in Res Life by this Friday. If you select 'Special Interest House' and later change your plans, that's fine -- you'll just have to contact Res Life to let them know.

hey Justin,

Are all the rooms in the (wellness floor) in Keefe 4TH and Watson 1st single?

Megaaadi,

All the rooms in 'Watson Wellness' are doubles. The rooms on '4th Floor Keefe Wellness' are a mix of doubles and singles.

Its obviously early for getting a computer for college, but I have been thinking about it lately. Does Lafayette have any suggestions, or preferences, particularly mac vs pc? I can't seem to find anything on Lafayette's website about it.

GoGBPackers_4,

Incoming students get tons of information the summer prior to their arrival. Our campus is entirely compatible with both PCs and Macs, but a gradually-shrinking majority go PC.

ITS has compiled a list of new student FAQs about computing on campus: New Student FAQ | Information Technology Services. Check it out, and ask any other questions you may have here.

Hey Candyman,

How do you think the economy has been affecting the admissions office at Lafayette. In other words, is the office admitting more students hoping they will come or are they keeping their selctivity and just increasing the number of people on their waitlist? Thankz man!

bostonman2009,

As an 'outsider,' all I know is that we plan on enrolling 615 into the Class of 2013, up from the typical 600 to help offset the rising cost of education.

Since we received fewer applications this year, and are admitting just a bit more, I bet our selectivity will decrease just slightly this year. I believe comparable colleges are seeing much the same in their numbers, as well.

Hi Justin - just checked son's Outstanding Requirements on banner self service and was upset to find a "not received" status for husband's corporate return. This makes no sense since it was sent to IDOC together with the business/farm supplement. Do you know if they are backed up with the document updates? This is troubling as today is the deadline and if it's truly missing this stuff goes by snail mail to IDOC. We also clearly noted that son wouldn't be filing a W-2 and that field status is also "not received." Will the finaid office take this directly via fax?

Moxy,

Don't get too frustrated -- things like this are all too common during the Admissions process.

I have no idea how backed up the Office of Financial Aid might be. It might be that the online system is simply not updated as frequently as it should be.

I'd call the office (610-330-5055) on Monday to ask what's up. If they legitimately don't have your husband's corporate return (even though it went with everything else through the IDOC service), you can just fax it over.

Hey Justin,

What would happen if I had sent my IDOC a little late?

bostonman2009,

Nothing would happen if you sent in your financial aid forms a few days late. Published deadlines aren't as firm as the office makes them out to be.

Good morning Justin!

I just am announcing my presence as a lurker...my daughter is a junior and we have Lafayette on the radar, and because of you it's the school we know the most about at this point! As things heat up we'll probably be asking more questions.

Thanks for all of the work you have put into this board!!!

Hey Justin, considering the recent economic conditions, how bright do you think are chances of admission for an international student asking for a full scholarship? How many of such students get in, on an average, every year? Any idea as to many students get in from India?

adrivit,

Admissions for int'l applicants has never been "need-blind." With that said, due to the current state of the economy, it will be more difficult for int'l applicants in need of $$$ to be admitted. I don't have any approximate numbers to provide, as those numbers are not made readily available.

A fewer number of full scholarships will be available, and I'm sure a number of Indian students will still be admitted.
