Justin - I’ve seen conflicting information regarding course requirements. One thing I read said only 1 math class is needed for graduation. Something else said 4 math courses are needed for graduation. Which is right?

Khan91/DougBetsy

As you would expect, graduation requirements vary depending upon major. You can find most of the information by visiting:

[Lafayette College](http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~registra/catalog/)

and opening the link to your planned major. As Justin wrote, your advisor will provide good guidance in selecting courses over your 4 years at Lafayette. Enjoy the experience!

^^^^ OOPS – clicking on the link will take you to the correct page, then click on “Courses of Instruction” down the left side of the page.

ctyankee,

I think the response to your inquiry about Greek life is summed up well in a previous post:

<<< Well, the administration is always keeping the Greek houses in check. Of course, the houses want to do whatever they want whenever they want, so tension is to be expected. I think it’s hard to find a school where Greek life and the administration aren’t constantly at odds. With that said, I wouldn’t be too worried about a reduction in Greek life anytime soon.

Public Safety has the ability to perform “safety checks” in the Greek houses, and Greek members aren’t too happy about that – that may be what you are referring to.

I should mention that, despite the constant bickering between the administration and Greek life, those involved seem to really relish the experience. >>>

DougBetsy,

As CC user lafparent points out, requirements differ by major. Math majors need to take many more math courses than a chemistry, biology, or engineering major.

Those students who need no math courses for their major still need to take one course, though, as part of our ‘Common Course of Study.’ So, yes, that means a religious studies major would have to take just one math course over the four years, unless he/she has AP/IB credits to place out of that requirement.

i think im transferring to lafayette do you know when rush for sororities is? i know its at the beginning of the fall, but like october or earlier in september? just want to know if i have time to settle in or if it starts early, which i wouldnt mind cause i would get to meet people!

oh and does lafayete have greek week? just curious :)

YankeesChamps09,

The recruitment process starts quite early in the Fall semester. Don’t worry, though, as you’ll be provided enough time to explore your options.

Yes, we do have a “Greek Week” – here’s a write-up of 2007’s events: [Fraternities and Sororities Celebrate Greek Week 2007](http://www.lafayette.edu/news.php/view/11039/).

thank you! also, do you know how to get in contact with the other transfer students? i know its a long shot but i figured i’d ask anyway! haha

YankeesChamps09,

Four ‘Student Spotlights’ are provided on the transfer student portion of the Admissions website: [Lafayette College Admissions for Transfer Students](http://lafayette.edu/admissions/transfer.html). Feel free to contact any of them via email – email addresses are the last name (up to seven letters) followed by the first initial, then @lafayette.edu. So, if you’d like to contact somebody named John Matherspoon, the email would be mathersj@lafayette.edu.

If you’d like the contact information of other transfer students with interests similar to your own, contact the Admissions person in charge of transfer admissions, Ms. Joan Lichtenwalner, at lichtenj@lafayette.edu.

Hey Justin, sorry to be bothering you again near to your finals… but i’ve a couple of queries.

About the food at Lafayette, is it ‘kosher’ or ‘halal’. If it’s not, what are the other options for Muslim students?

Another one, about the rooming. When you say ‘co-ed by room’, what do you mean. Surely, a female student would stay with a female student and male with males. Right?

Thanks!

khan91,

There is a decent selection of kosher food items in dining halls, but I’m not so sure about halal items. I don’t know who you might contact about Muslim food options – possibly Dining Services at dining@lafayette.edu.

‘Co-ed by room’ means pairs of males and females live in adjacent rooms.

Phew!, on both answers. :)

Hi Justin,
what is the waitlist situation looking like at the moment? I just put my deposit down at my 2nd choice school but am still completely set on attending Lafayette if I am admitted.
Is there anything more I can do at this point? And when will they be mailing the final decisions of acceptance or rejection?
Thanks in advance
Samantha

Samantha,

There’s no way for me to know what’s up with the waitlist at any moment. They’ve already started calling applicants, though, judging by what’s been said on these boards. I’d bet on more calls going out after May 1. Final decision letters will be mailed out after all spaces in the incoming class have been filled – it’s hard to tell how long this process will take.

At this point, you’ll just have to wait and see!

soooo as a curious future student, i was curious so i went to this website where students can anonymously post opinions about anything. all they did on this site was bash the school, and ive never seen such a case where so many students bash their school. most schools ive heard of, their students have enormous pride about their school. now im getting worried that im going to a school where im going to be unhappy and i know its silly to base my opinions like that but its hard to ignore the fact that there are SO many unhappy posts. so i just was hoping you could calm my nerves on this issue? haha thanks!

[dont come here](http://collegeacb.com/sb.php?school=LafayetteC&page=thread&id=84121)

[What you hate about lafayette](http://collegeacb.com/sb.php?school=LafayetteC&page=thread&id=81375)

YankeesChamps09,

Hahaha…that site is such a joke. It just goes to show what anonymity can do to some people (well…probably the same two or three people who choose to post).

Look up any other school and you’ll see how the degree of libelous commentary is much the same. Pretty disgusting stuff, really – I weep for those who are compelled to contribute.

I wouldn’t let this mindless drivel worry you.

Ya it sounds like all those posts were from the same person. Similar writing style, word used, phrasing-- everything.

All of the comments were also regarding the scholl being small, parties, or being like a high school.

Well yes the school is small, that pretty evident. You can have as much or as little fun as you like- that is not an issue.

The posts are really all pointless and without merit.

haha okay! whew! so theres stuff to do on the weekends then? not that im a crazy party animal haha but its good to know that there are things going on!

Back in the day Lafayette’s greek scene and party culture could hang with anyone.

The admin didnt like it and set out for destruction, but much of the old culture still remains.

There is plenty of parties and driniking to partake in nearly everyday of the week if that is what you desire. Go see the boys at Fiji (if they dont get kicked off campus) and they will show you a party!
