Hey guys, I’m a current junior at UCSD (Human Biology major + Pre Med as well whee). When I applied back in Fall 2011, I also applied to UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, UCSD (of course), and UC Irvine and got into all of them. Besides that, also applied to privates such as U of Chicago (waitlisted), Ivies, JHU (accepted but couldn’t attend due to lack of money).
Basic info about me
- Currently dying with major classes (done with all Lower Division classes)
- Research at 2 labs currently
- Volunteering by tutoring/teaching English
- Club things
- Work for the Music Department (theater stage crew)
- MUN
- Often travels abroad to shadow physicians
- Reader (grades and proctors exams for ochem, hopefully TAing soon)
If you have any questions about UCSD in general or about admissions, etc feel free to comment
i’m currently a sophomore in high school and i think i will end the first semester with a 3.5 GPA
will this lower my chances of getting into UCSD?
I really want to go to UCSD and i am paranoid because my grades are slowly dropping
is 3.5 considered a bad grade?
sorry i am new to America and i’m still confused over this whole GPA concept
Why did u choose sd over cal and la? And are you happy with the decisions?
How hard is it to get classes?
I’m a first year transfer student, so I’m currently in my second quarter here. So far I haven’t had the slightest bit of problem getting into classes (Computer Engineering student).
Heyyy sorry for the really late replies. I’ve been literally swamped with midterms (bleh)
@jojochoco Hmmm you’re still a sophomore so you still have to raise your GPA up. It depends on your major honestly however. But in general, upward trends are always positive so if you can show the adcoms your improvement and dedication, that will be good. 3.5 isn’t bad but you will be competing with those higher, so I would try your best for a positive trend if you can
@arsenalfan69 In all honestly, SD biology is stronger than LA so that’s one reason I came down to SD. SD has really good research and lots of opportunities to get research as a science major. I chose SD over Berkeley partially cause I’ve lived in Berkeley my whole life and wanted to get away lol. But Berkeley is amazing I don’t deny that at all. It is slightly more cut throat up there though compared to SD
@Classof2015HS Getting classes is based not on your GPA but based on how many units you have. The more units you have, the easier it’ll be to get classes for me. For me, it was hard to get certain classes especially classes that EVERYONE needs as a pre req such as Organic Chemistry or Labs (labs are intensely hard to get here cause they’re so small).
