Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

vicissitudes: Are the loans disembursed gradually throughout the year, or in one big amount at the beginning? Because so far, only one of my loans (a direct, subsidized one) has been sent to my CARS account.

financial aid gives me the same amount of aid for the fall and spring semesters...however, i know that fall is costing me less than spring since i am oos and fpf fees are comparable to in-state fees...so what i want to know is, does the extra unused aid from fall semester "rollover" for spring semester use, or does all aid given for a particular semester have to be used for that specific semester?

Since they put me in the wrong history discussion period, I got barred from taking all possible art/lit course except English 31AC which is back-to-back with my history class on Mondays. The problem with this is that English 31AC is in Mulford, how possible is it to get from FPF to Mulford in ten minutes?

They are disbursed as soon as they are processed. I think of them as "floating in financial limbo" until a payment comes, where they are automatically used to pay the payments until they run out. It might have something to do with the "balance", but I've never been able to figure out if the "balance" refers to how much aid you have, or how much you owe for the school year, or what.

If only one of your loans has been sent to CARS, it may mean that they're only processed one, or you only accepted one, or you are missing documentation for the others (such as the Master Promissory Note).

Not possible. It'll take you 20 minutes if you're fast. The question is, how much does that first 10-15 minutes of class matter? For my English 1B class, it didn't matter at all. For your English class, who knows.

I got my solution. I need to get Hist 7b swapped with Enviro 50AC, and then I can get Classics 10A back

How many/what classes are you guys taking?

wait did you guys get your schedules already??

i got mine like...last friday, or something like that.

I'm not an FPF(I decided to stay home), so what is it like to move into dorms for spring semester since theres no move-in day like fall admits?

You just move in like all other students. There's a "spring welcome week" but many people don't go and just treat it as an extra week of vacation. It's a bit awkward at first because you're moved into a floor where everyone already knows each other. It's not like move-in day where everyone meeting everyone else. But, people are very friendly (for the most part) and you shouln't have any problems fitting right in.

How much later are spring/fpf students' phase 1 appointments then fall admit froshs

It's about the same, actually.

my roommate who is fall admit just got his today, but mine isn't updated ***?

Yeah I think they take longer to get your phase I, but your actual phase I should be around the same time.

so what exactly do we do at those calso supplement meetings that we signup for?

And does the date of your FPF/Extension Schedule Planning Session determine your TeleBears appointment time? (the oct 26th session is already full..)

No, the date of your planning session doesn't really matter. And you don't do anything really. You show them the schedule you want to take, they tell you "oh okay" or "don't take all science classes." It's not a big deal.

what if your schedule is all science classes? will they stop you or something?

No, they'll say "umm...you shouldn't take 4 science classes..." and you'll say "okay, but I'm going to anyway."

They only "help" you and make suggestions. You sign up for classes through telebears. You can sign up for all your classes without even attending the sessions.

This is my planned courselist for spring

IB c185 (Human Paleontology, 5 units) (I was told by the professor to take it this semester)
Chem 1A (4 units)
IB 24 (1 unit)
Bio 1B (4 units)
Classics 10B (4 units)
17 units of class and 1 unit of seminar. I have 16 units of class this semester

my two IB classes will definitely be part of my phase 1, but which of my other three courses should be phase 1?
