Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

lol yeeea when he said that i was like "are you serious?" oh well no matter. with the help of other CAL students and my brother and sister i finally convinced him :) happy happy joy joy!!

hey, did anyone else see the Fall Program for Freshmen chat that is going on right now? It was in myBerkeleyApp.

is it still going on?!?! i don't see it :(

i sent my extension rsvp this monday, but im worried i did it too late. i dont want to be out of the fall college experience, is there any other community college around berkeley area to get credits at?

tinaaaw: do you really think you turned it in late? cuz i sent mine TODAY. you're scaring me O_O lol..

well. im the kind of person that likes to assume worst scenarios first so i can prepare a little. whether i know if i sent it too late or not, im still a little worried so i want to keep options open just in case!!

You'll be fine. Even if you send it in today I think you'll make it in. But just to answer your question for the sake of answering it, there's always Berkeley City College nearby.

What's the likelihood of getting a double in one of the units if I request a friend whose in for fall? I know that last year this didn't work for some people

I think that question was already covered in this thread, but anyway, if both you and your friend requested each other on the housing app that you submit, then usually your chances of getting each other are pretty good.

do you need to submit your SIR in order to get any kind of FPF confirmation?

When do you pick your dorms (if you are a spring admit, and not going to FPF)?
Do you pick it at the end of the fall semester..which mean that you get crappy dorms left over? Guaranteed housing for spring admits, hopefully?

Nope.

The deadline for application for housing for spring admits (non-FPF) is October 1. It doesn’t mean you get crappy dorms left over, it means you get whatever dorms are available. Spots open up and they could be good ones or bad ones. Anyway, another thread mentioned something about guaranteed housing for spring admits/FPF students in the spring but I don’t see it on the Cal Housing website so until someone says different I’m going to say that housing for the first year for spring admits/FPF students is not guaranteed. Your second year is, though.

I sent my EPF form from So Cal via priority mail on Saturday, how long should it take to be confirmed on their site? I have a friend who sent it Saturday via regular mail and his next-steps check box is checked, but he submitted his SIR already

I came across this:

quote In addition to fall 2006 admits, UC Berkeley admitted 2,229 freshman applicants to the spring 2007 semester.

[/quote]

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucb.html

This seems to imply that spring admits are not included in the released admissions rate.

okay i got into fpf. am i garatunteed now or is there space limit in those classes and i got to sign up as soon as possible?

btw did you submit your SIR already?

You're guaranteed a spot in the program but certain classes may still fill up. Usually people will drop and it's not a big deal to add the class you want when the semester begins.

thanks vicissitudes, i swear this post should be a sticky. anyway..

1) i am going to a CC. Will any CC be okay for the transferring of credits...as long as the classes are the same as the one i would take at ucb?

2) i got a 530 on my SAT II for Math. That means i am exempt from Quantative Reasoning for the College of Letters and Science. Does that mean I don't have to take any more math classes, if my major does not call for it?

thanks!

Re: Collegekid2007

1) For CC courses you must look to see if they actually transfer over to UC Berkeley. To do so use www.assist.org which tells you which CC classes have units that transfer and if any CC have Berkeley equivalents.

2) Yes, you are exempt from QR with your 530 SAT II Math 2C, barely, 520 is the minimum.

Thanks Golden Bear.

YESS! Thank goodness i don't have to take any math courses during college.

That site is really nice..thanks.

For the reading and composition requirement...it says:
Guidelines for R&C Courses:

* You must complete a combination of the courses listed below with a grade of C- or higher.
* You may use first-half and second-half courses from different departments.
* Some of the courses fulfill other requirements besides R&C. By choosing courses wisely, you can realize more than one academic objective.

The first bullet ..it said "combination of classes"...how many exactly at CC? I am not quite sure.
