asking a different counselor for a recommendation?

Hi,

I'm applying to several private schools that require a counselor recommendation.
I got a new counselor this year and it's her first year doing guidance.
Unfortunately, because of her inexperience, she does not really offer much useful information and has to pass on my questions to the other counselors.

I know a different counselor much more than I know my official counselor, and I was wondering whether I could ask that other counselor for my common app/ USC recommendation? Or do they have to be filled out by my official counselor?

Thanks.

I asked a counselor who wasn’t mine and I’m incredibly happy I did. She knew me much better than my formal one and actually took an interest in me.

If you think it’s the best move for you, then do it. The only harm that would come of it would be some hurt egos.

Wait, but is that ok to do?
I’m willing to ask a different counselor, but I’m worried about it being against a policy or something. Is my official counselor the only one eligible to fill it out, or can I ask another counselor?
If I can, what must I do?

you should be fine, but just make sure your new counselor is ok with it (don’t go behind his/her back)

yeah its cool. completely legal move. only bad thing is make sure your counselor doesn’t get ****ed. one of the counselors at my school is terrible, so acouple of my friends who have her is using my counselor, who is awesome

Sounds good.
Will there be a problem if colleges see a different counselor on my official transcript (official counselor)?
